New Routers

I'm trying new modem / routers on my telkom adsl account.
i'm currently using the billion router i got free.

but i'm trying the trendnet tew-635brm router, but it cannot connect to internet.
the adsl light is on but internet light not. when i run test it says adsl OK but cannot connect to PPPoE server.

I tried the netgear N150 router as well (brand new)
Same problem. adsl light on, internet light off / red.
the test on the webadmin here does not give any error, but i cannot browse with this router either.

i was just on the line holding for telkom support for 1hr before i put down the phone.
i've got all three router webadmin windows open at the same time, and althought options are not all the same / available, the main options i made sure is the same.

is there anything special I / telkom need to do before i can use the other routers. ???

No, and trying to troubleshoot over forums is not your answer either.

Make sure of a few things first. ADSL Settings:

LLC (Not VC)
UBR (Not VBR, although it has worked for me before)
8/35

You'll find these settings in your router config page.

There is nothing special that you need to do to your line or anything in order to use a different Modem.
I've never used the crappy telkom ones and never had any issues.

It doesn't sound like much fun, but ADSL tech support is your best option right now....
