I've been following the news coming from Intel about the launch of the new Sandy Bridge processors, the 2300,2400,2500 and 2600 (and their K-versions.)

Seems a bunch are already available in Malaysia. With the rest apparently being released at the CES 2011 which i think is around the 5th Jan. Pricing also looks incredible considering what the current range is selling for.

Now the big question is: When are we going to see any of this in SA? Does anyone maybe have any idea how long it'll take going from international launch to local distribution?

curious to know as well. I've been holding off purchasing a pc in 2010 for the sandybridge processors

I chatted to someone at Prophecy.co.za and the guy I spoke to told me that they should receive stock (if there's no shortages) from Intel relatively quickly within a few weeks from the international launch.

I'm really hoping this is the case, if so we should see it with retailers late Jan. Although I'm not getting my hopes set on it.

Otherwise we have to look at importing it somehow.

Do you guys think it will be worth getting the new Sand Bridge CPUs (for gaming)? Or rather get a hold of some cheap x58 CPUs?

Cheap x58, lol. Wait for Sandy, worst case prices on current LGA1156 components will drop. Until proper reviews are out anything said with regards to performance is pure speculation.

With a bit of scratching around on the web I've found quite a few cases of some really impressive overclocking results on the sandy bridge chips. I think it's definitely worth the wait, especially if our local retailers don't go and inflate the prices at launch.

You need to buy the unlocked chips though to be able to OC, and they carry a small price premium.

I saw that, but not too bad though... some of the pricing guidelines show the price increase isn't too much... I'm really hoping the 2500k comes in at around $260-270 ( lower, if that's possible :D )... hoping the Rand stays strong and that the import costs and profit margins aren't too huge, I think we'd look at paying around R2000-R2400 for it. Which puts it close to the pricing of the current i5 760.

There's hope if the i7 2600 comes in at $301

But that's just my personal guess-ti-mation.

Then we also need to check out the new socket 1155 boards, that should be available at the same time.

Ok lets bump this thread and keep it active as an "Official" Sandy bridge thread for discussion...

I just installed the 2600K onto an Asus P8P67 Pro yesterday, using a Coolermaster V6GT cooler in a HAF 922 case. My stock temps range from 34C up to 64C. Not happy :( what do u guys get??

Stock ambient has been in the 30's of late, so they don't look that shabby, unless at 22C with the aircon maxed out.

I was worried that its running hot... used to my old q6600 temps. but its been awfully hot in Durbs lately and I have no aircon in my PC room :(

The performance from it is outstanding... I jumped 28K (almost doubled) my CPU score in 3D Mark Vantage! It gets about 58K @ stock speeds. My Q6600 @3.0ghz only got about 30K.
