New SciFi eBook

I've found a few grammatical errors, and did a bit of editing (minor changes to make it flow nicer). Its all cosmetic but I'm steadily eliminating all the little glitches.

Everyone who bought a book should have received an email with an updated version of the book, if you didn't receive anything please let me know.

For those of you that are on GoodReads, I've just signed up as an author (bit daunting because they have a lot of real authors there who are very famous Undecided Shocked).

Please follow me there.

Got my ISBN numbers from the national library yesterday!

Quite a quick and easy process actually - looks like some people in the government still do a good job!

I have to submit copies of the book to them within 14 days so I'm going to have to try and find all the punctuation etc errors before then.

Put some effort into the cover art.

This is the final version that will be lodged at the National Library. I'm quite happy with it!

Thanks!

Putting in a big effort now to get the book ready for Amazon, as well as lodging with the National Library.

After reading up on how to help people find the book among all the others on Amazon, it seems that one needs people to write reviews on the book, but obviously the best way to get those, is for people to actually have read the book already.:p:confused:

So if anyone is interested, I'm giving away 20 copies - the idea being that if you like it enough, you might write a review?

If you want one, either fill in the form at http://extinction.co.za/limited-ebook-give-away/, or pm me your email address and I'll send you a copy (.pdf, .mobi or .epub)

Ok the free giveaway is complete.

Thanks to all who participated.

Hope you enjoy the book.

After reading up on how to write an enticing blurb, here's my new version below

Frank Anderson is an ordinary engineer who is about to start a new contract, when he receives a call in the middle of the night from a stranger.

It seems that even though he has no experience in disaster response at all, he has been hand picked to lead a crack response team in a desperate last ditch attempt to avert a pending global disaster of the largest magnitude. But the project is so secret, they can’t tell him why he was selected, nor what it is he has to do.

His response to that call starts a fast paced series of events in which the stakes just keep getting higher, along with the danger!

His small team needs to perform a crucial task that might be the only thing that prevents the extinction of mankind. But before they can even begin, they will need to redefine the laws of physics.

What do you think?

I got some good feedback on the last attempt at an enticing blurb.

So here is hopefully a better attempt:

"Frank Anderson, is an ordinary mechanical engineer specialising in renewable energy systems. He gets a call in middle of the night from a stranger who needs him to attend a meeting in Europe that same day. But they won’t tell him why, or what it is they want him to do.

When he gets there, he finds that the stakes simply cannot be higher. He must lead a hastily formed task team in a last ditch desperate attempt to prevent the probable extinction of mankind.

But what they are attempting has never been done before. Nobody is sure they can even survive the journey. And where they are going, there can be no help. It's up to Frank and his team of diverse individuals, to do or die alone. "

Do you think this is any better than the last?

Actually either of the last 2 you've posted sound ok. It's whichever you prefer.

Thanks for the feedback. The purpose of this text is to get the browsing reader to want to actually open the book and read further. So its quite subtle.

Being an engineer, where you are trained to cut out the emotional stuff and get to the facts, its quite hard to try and suggest the intrigue etc that is required :wtf::p

But after of some feedback elsewhere and quite a few more revisions last night, here's my latest attempt:

"Frank Anderson is just an ordinary mechanical engineer specialising in renewable energy systems.

But after a strange midnight call requesting his presence urgently in Europe, he finds that the very future of mankind is at risk—and time has almost run out.

He is asked to attempt something that has never been done before. It’s a desperate last ditch mission to avert complete disaster. But nobody is really sure if its even survivable. And Frank’s small team of diverse individuals will be far from any outside help. They must do, or die, alone."

What do you think?

2 things from my side.

1. Mr Anderson, really? lol :D i can't take it seriously.
2. Get it proof read again.. just in the first chapter "Henni's surname wasn't too far from the Afrikaans i though irrelevantly." - Thought*
This one i'm not 100% sure on, but i think it needs a comma:
"What a ridiculously pompous name for an organization I thought irritably." - What a ridiculously pompous name for an organization, I thought irritably.

Thanks, will look into those.

Always appreciate the feedback.

BTW, I deliberately included few references as homage to other books and movies etc I like, just for fun.

The Matrix is one of my favourite movies, hence when I was trying to think of a good name for a hero, Mr Anderson was an obvious choice, but being just an ordinary engineer in my book, he doesn't have any sort of cool hacker alias, and had to make do with Frank.

You might find others in the book, some are less obvious.

Thinking about maybe trying a new cover.

Any comments on this?
