New software compiles complex room shape using acoustics

I think this was in another movie also that came out recently a sci-fi movie in which they try to find the origin of human life(along the idea of scientology beliefs that we came from aliens).I cant remember the name right now but they send in a robot and it scans the rooms using laser tech which basically works the same as this except that this uses sound.Very cool tech this..i'm sure this could have many uses for espionage also once it can detect people in the room etc.

They also used something similar in the Dark Knight Rises IINM.
