Despite the specs on paper, even the Sony faithful on the forums are disappointed with the A77's output - at least what we've seen so far. I'm waiting to get my hands on some RAW files to see for myself.

But I'll say this, the real exciting things is what Nikon might do with that 24MP sensor :)

The highest ISO sample image for the A77 (that I could find) was ISO1250. Doesn't look bad, if I think back to what that would have looked like on my old A100. Wasn't full size though.

Just bear the sensor photosite density vs the DLA figures in mind, no matter which camera it is.
24MP on an APS-C is a total waste since the DLA is around F5.
On a FF, it's still a big thumbs up.

Diffraction limit doesn't mean the camera becomes useless when you hit that. On the G9, diffraction sets in (apparently) around f/4 but I can get sharp shots at f8.

I bet you Nikon will get less noise from that 24MP sensor, than Canon gets from an 18MP :whistling: :D

EDIT: Also, much sharper images and better colour reproduction... If that is not true, we can come back here and discuss DLA.

Personally I'm somewhat interested in the A65...

Depending on the price tag attached to it, it could be a decent camera.

For sure. Their specs are great. These mirrorless cameras can be great for action photography, with their high FPS shooting rate. Just interested to know how the sensors perform for Sony. We know they've had issues in the past...

The only Sony's I would consider at this moment are the A580, A850 and A900 ... the A580 is very good at low light, however it would seem SOny is moving towards its A35/A55/A65/A77 range, and I am in no way impressed with this range right now.

If you looking to the A850 or A900 you after a very different camera from the A77.

I wouldn't touch a Sony with a 10ft pole. This is the same company who sue people for modding their Playstations. I'm a tinkering type, I have CHDK on one of my cameras, and if I was to figure out how to do something cool that the manufacturer didn't intend, you can bet your last Rand I'll post instructions on-line.

They seem to be taking note of what photographers want and pushing the boundaries on design, and that's nice, but their cameras aren't good enough that I would ignore the way they treat their customers just to have one.
