The last documents I saw relating to the 'rates' of fines was the old Aarto schedule 3 docs, eg: http://www.arrivealive.co.za/documents/AARTO_Schedule_3.pdf
similar to what's stated at: http://www.aartofacts.co.za/chargecodes-list.asp?offset=1740

Aarto Facts has:
21-25 over = R750
26-30 over = R1000

The Arrive Alive PDF states
21-25 over = R1000
26-30 over = R1250

Yet I read of two fines recently received that were significantly higher:
21-25 over = R2250
26-30 over = R3000

I suspect I got nailed in the dip on witkoppen where the speed goes from 80 to 60 for a section over the bridge.
During my normal commute that's the speed you'd be doing anyway, but I went through later at night, and it completely slipped my mind :( Haven't had a fine in a while, so not sure what the penalties are now...

It's surprisingly hard to find these numbers online... so can anyone point me to CURRENT numbers on them?

Thanks :)

My initial response was way more vivid ;) 3x increase in as many years? To counter the 50% reduction?

From what the Aarto Act seemed to stipulate, the actual amounts can be set by the Minister of Transport and ?Minister of Finance?, so it wasn't stated in that doc, and I couldn't easily find an actual reference to updates.

That's right, ignore it, I have had about 10 in the last couple of years, 2 were handed to me by the pig who pulled me over. Iv looked for it on payfine.co.za and found nothing, I went to the cop shop to pay a big one and it didn't come up on there system.

The law states that if the fine is not processed and sent out to you within 30 days of the violation then it is invalid. If you get a fine and the date of the trapping and the processed date is longer than 30 days then you return it with a letter stating it is invalid and refuse to pay.

If you are handed a fine by a cop, it's a summons. There's nothing to wait for in the post.

It also depends on the area where your speed. Get caught for doing 100 past a school and they'll give you a huge fine or even maybe lock you up.

Answer seems to lie here: http://www.aarto.co.za/ssm.asp
under "Company cars and nominating the driver"
Fines issued under AARTO to juristic persons such as companies, trusts, etc. are tripled in the amount payable, in return for not incurring demerit points on the proxy's driving licence. Under normal circumstances it is the duty of the juristic entity's responsible to nominate the driver, in which case the infringement notice will be cancelled and reissued to the actual responsible driver at the normalised fine amount.

One of the guys I mentioned was test driving a ?bike? when he got nailed. 3x R750...
