The Premier League will introduce a squad cap of 25 players and a quota on home-grown players from next season. Clubs must include eight home-grown players out of a squad of 25.‬‪

The rules are discussed here

Will this cause problems for your club?

From a Gunners perspective I do not think we will struggle too much, but already Arsenal has decided to withdraw from the reserve league. First of all we have a large number of very good players under 21 who can supplement the squad of 25. Secondly we can easily meet the home-grown rule and can even buy at least 4 players who are not "home-grown" in this transfer window, depending on which players are released.

I am not so sure that the other top 7 clubs (I must include Liverpool ;)) are as well positioned as Arsenal, specifically in respect of having as many under 21 players good enough to supplement the main squad, but I am not an expert on the other teams and would like to hear their supporters' views.

Nope, not really gonna impact on Chelsea to be honest... We have gotten rid of some of our older non-compliant playing staff and have a good batch of youngsters to complement our 25 man squad. Oh yeah - thanks to Arsenal and Mr. Wenger... Anelka qualifies as home-grown :D

BTW: This is a decision taken by the football clubs and the leadership of the footballing community in England. It is not an English government law so it's completely different from the Bosman incident.

I thought quotas are illegal in Europe.

Only if it disacriminates based on nationality. Just like the cl rules there is no nationality clause with these rules. a Player qualifies as home grown if he spend 3 seasons between the age of 15 and 21 at the club.

Basicly if your club could register for the cl or europa league last season you will be fine.

Who are Chelsea's 8 homegrown players potentially out of the squad of 25?

Lol
Joe Cole should qualify as home grown too :D

I am no expert on the other teams but it looks to me that both Chelsea and ManU will have to get rid of some of their older players before they can buy any foreign players. Their supporters are welcome to tell me if I am wrong.

These are Arsenal's players who are homegrown or under 21:
Cesc Fabregas
Aaron Ramsey
Gael Clichy
Theo Walcott
Johan Djourou
Denilson
Kieran Gibbs
Jack Wilshere
Armand Traore
Vito Mannone
Nicklas Bendtner
Alex Song
Sol Campbell
Craig Eastmond
Wojciech Szczęsny
Tom Cruise
Nacer Barazite
Jay Emmanuel-Thomas
Mark Randall
Henri Lansbury
Gavin Hoyte

I have left out a few who may be leaving and those who have not yet been training with the first team squad. There may be others which should be included in this list.

Hmm I don;'t think it will effect Blackburn much...not like we can get any worse :D

I dont think it will have much effect on Spurs, as they have quite a few guys in the National Squad.

:D just glad that they actually did something... looks at the man u fans, and laughs about the roo!

No but seriously, they have defoe, lennon, king. and that is just off the top of my head.

These are the only Arsenal players subject to the squad rule:

Almunia 32
Fabianski 24
Sagna 26
Eboue 26
Vermaelen 24
Diaby 23
Rosicky 29
Arshavin 28
Nasri 22
van Persie 26
Eduardo 26
Chamakh 27

That means that we have space for 5 more foreign players over 21 if needed plus replacements (ref rumours about Eduardo leaving and Alumunia being replaced.)

Man City's 2009 squad according to their website consisted of 36 players of whom 23 are not home-grown as far as I can tell. This excludes David Silva which makes it 24 to be trimmed down to 17. I don't know their squad players but it seems as if they have a bit of cleaning out to do.

IF they have to under 21 AND homegrown...

Bruma
Van Aanholt

If they can be over 21... just add...

Only 4 regulars there.

What about Sturridge?
