Does anyone remember - how long fromt he moment you activate the new Starter Pack does the SIM become usable? I can't even dial 123 (Virgin Mobile's helpline) on it at the moment as it says the cal lis barred.

@Keeper - Nope, LOL, walked into Checkers and walked straight out 2 minutes later with the Starter Pack for R9,99.... so much for their new RICA rules

@Nerfherder - thanks.. will keep an eye on the phone.

Fantastic! Now without a Virgin Mobile store in East London anymore - how does one RICA their SIM?

Italk, Nashua , Discom, Pep , Shoprite, Game

They all have the rica sign here in Richards Bay so I'm not sure if it will work.

However I registered a cellc pay as you go at Autopage without any problems.

Some store only need ID and ask where you live but take proof of residence with just in case! :)

So I RICA'ed through an Autopage outlet yesterday morning.

As of this morning the SIM is still not active even though it shows VIRGIN signal on the screen. Can't call 123 or receive calls. This is BS - this whole RICA thing is messing up the whole process!

Sent an email to Virgin support 2 days ago - unanswered!

SIGH - am really glad my contract is with Vodacom.... Virgin Mobile seems as inexperienced as a virgin!

Sorry to hear that. Try and register at another place. If they tell you they can't you are all ready registered then its a virgin mobile problem but if they register you then autopage didn't do it right!

Call VM Support on 0860000181 insist on speaking to technical support and ask them to remove the IN lock.

This is happening lately on new starter packs, that have just been RICA'd their system is not removing the IN lock properly hence stopping you from making or receiving calls.

Phoned them and they say that there is no record of the SIM being RICA'ed.

I've had it now - I will be burning the R10 Virgin Sim Card tonight and sticking with my Vodacom contract Sim for data...

I cannot believe how complicated this whole story has become with RICA! It is not worth the effort!

Plus - turns out, all the SIM Card owners in informal settlements have to register, but because they don't have proper addresses, they must list their nearest church or police station as their address

WTF??? What is the point of this then? What a joke. This new law is not going to prevent any crime!

I'm a little peeved about RICA so don't get me started on it, as RICA has cost me 60% of my business at least.
