So after all these years using a 32" Samsung LED tv I decided to upgrade it. The options and brands is so overwhelming that it is not easy for a normal user to decide which one. My room to put the television is not too big, so I am either deciding between a 43" or a 50". My budget for this is R6000. I have looked on Takealot which I prefer to purchase from because I am staying in an outlined area. Just make things easier with the purchase and transport it. I also see that some of the well known pc brands does not come with Google Playstore anymore? So that does mean a Android stick at the back if that is my requirement?

Looking forward to a few options to look at, will appreciate.

I am still disappointed for buying a Samsung smart tv I should have gotten the Skyworth or TCL which both had android operating system.

Most brands uses their own operating software so you are like stuck with the apps they allow or are pre-installed so a stick/media player box is the only way for android/google stuff

Lesson learned I guess :X3: never listen to the SO

At that price you're not going to be getting the best, even at 43" so here are a few suggestions, I've not had this Sinotec so can't really comment on it, but the ones I have had, sound is never great on them so take that into mind.

Toshiba has some decent TVs though I'm not too familar with this spec but reviewers are saying for the price they aren't bad
The 450 would be better then the 350

TCL the P series isn't as good as the C series and of course the higher the number the better, think these still come with Android, but they have gone up in price recently. So only one in your price range

Hisense, pretty much would be similar to Toshiba, but the Toshiba you'd get a little more bang for buck, their naming schemes are odd though, but it would be something like A is entry level, E is mid, U is mid to higher, Q is also mid, the number represents the series in that class so 7 would be better than 6 type thing and the last letter is the year, K would be 2023, N would be 2024

Skyworth is the higher class Sinotec, better sound and picture mostly, also still runs Android, but they are out of budget for now. Hope this helps, any of the other brands like Samsung and LG won't really fit that budget and if they do the TVs would be outdated.

I would suggest TCL. I have been running LGs for the last 19 years, and after the last one (4 years old) said goodbye, I went for the TCL, mostly because of the Google TV OS, but also because of the high refresh rates for the PS5.
The 43" sits nicely in your budget, 50" is a bit more, but you might be able to make it work?

Thanks guys for the advice @Lupus you helped me now great with all the information needed. I appreciate your detailed response.

I have looked at the TCL brand, but not sure how the quality is of the image? It is either go for a Hisense or Toshiba if the image quality is better and then put a Xiaomi stick at the back, but I think a Google TV build-in will just be better. So you quite happy with your TCL purchase?

Except that Sinotec brand...:)
It's not bad, it really isn't. I had the 58" one for a few months, my biggest issue was sound. But most Tvs within this price range aren't going to be great with sound, just the Sinotec was worse of all :-)

To answer that ... I have a LG Nanocell NANO 86 that died, replaced with this TCL (https://www.takealot.com/tcl-55-c755-qd-mini-led-4k-google-smart-tv/PLID94115688). I prefer the picture quality of the TCL, and also the Google TV OS. The proprietory Operating Systems become a problem later on with App support.
I am still very happy with my TCL purchase.

TCL C series for the win.
( I also have the LG c1, but the TCL is alot more value for money)

for sure.
I was just trying to make the point that even with a C1 in the house, I still think the TCL C series is a top TV.
It is indeed, it is a pity it took them so long to actually get to SA and be available.

Trues that, but if I need to put a few bucks out for a better device I am rather willing to do that then to limited my self here
Rather weigh the options as well, sure the C series is better but the 635 won't be that much better than the P755 for example as it's 2 years older.

Okay I see, I will take note of that
