New Telkom Capping Policies

Firstly , 30GBs with a 3GB account isn't so bad as long as the current pricing doesn't goes higher

This is competing directly with iS am guessing.

WA iS
R139-00
30GB , 3GB iNT , rest for local

Ti SAiX
R269-00 Advanced
33GB , 3GB iNT , 30GB local thereafter R25,55 p/gb

Looking at their new tracker , seems it won't count towards the intial 3GB .

Blended
Downloaded : 14.3325 GB
Uploaded : 314.0763 MB
Total Bandwidth used : 14.6393 GB
Total Usage for November : 4.5421 GB

Local
Downloaded : 6.869 GB

Total Bandwidth used : 7.0001 GB
Total Usage for November : 7.0001 GB

Once your service threshold and collective threshold has been exceeded you will be placed within your allocated Local Only bandwidth which is on promotion currently. As we will not cap you on local we reserve the right to bill you for anything exceeding the allocated local bandwidth that is on promotion. The charge for local bandwidth is R25,55 per gig.

Has any1 noticed this before ?? :eek::eek:

I am stopping all downloads immediately until some1 can clarify for us if they haven't already in another thread, sorry to original poster if this is off topic :p

EDiT
I see its posted in the thread above haha :p

@Yuu - that means that if you have a 10GB local allowance, they will charge that price for anything exceeding the 10GB. Same if you exceed 20GB or 30GB if that's what your allowance is.

So...

Say you get their R79 per month 1GB account, for argument's sake. Now instead of only having 1GB "blended", and nothing else, you now get the 1GB same as before, plus an additional 10GB local-only SAIX at no extra cost? They only start charging you per gig if you then use more than that 10GB?

Is that right?

Yup that's my understanding of it :) At least only until this "promotional period" is over, whenever that may be.

Well I was getting 20Gb SAIX Local for R300pm from Axxess. Guess it makes sense to cancel that now and get a 3Gb TI account.

I get the feeling that TI are going to do very nicely from this at other ISP's expense.

Yeah think I mentioned it in the other thread, we have no reason to feel guilty, we should move to whoever offers the best deal.

If the ISP's feel that they are at a disadvantage then they should take it up with the relevant authorities so that they receive the same privileges as TelkomInternet, instead of relying on consumer sympathy. I don't see how it's fair that TI can offer that much local free while the other ISP's cant, due to the pricing structure or whatever the case may be. But again it's not really our problem, if they don't want to fight for their rights then they leave us with little choice.

I have bought verbally, on the phone, 2 GB, soft capped, at a fixed price.
If they choose to not cap me, for local traffic, I am happy, but I have not agreed to pay extra.

OMG LAME, I just checked and the saix.news.net traffic is coming off int even tho ive exceeded my 2gb cap :(.

WHAT CRAP, this means that the local is only usuable if i cap my self internationally.

I think you are quite right.

Is local and international split yet? Ie. can I use my local bandwidth without using my 3Gb cap? Or do I have to finish the 3Gb cap to use the local?

Sorry for the lame question, I've tried looking for the answer a few times, but there's a new thread popping up each day. ;)

I still think the bandwidth is "blended" until the cap is reached. At that point international is barred, and so any bandwidth use thereafter is automatically local. While they can probably split traffic, I think they still have technical difficulties in providing differentiated statistics for international and local traffic.

Thanks Gatecrasher (great seeing you again, feels like ages).

That sucks man. I need international and I can't exactly explain to my un-tech savvy family that I have to download in order to download more ;) :D :p

I also thought so too. But my Blended usage on my "1GB" account shows 10GB++ "Blended Usage".

http://www.telkomsa.net/products/all_access.html

click products and then view, 10 gig local per gig of int you buy from telkom...

What I want to know is does this use of local first chow the 3gb or so of int you have and then start deducting local? If so wtf.

Thanks
J

Jeeze! Telkom changes its T&C's more often than a whore changes her pants!

I see that now no reference is made to 30GB local usage, or charges over 30GB usage. There is also no longer reference to having access to banks once capped.

It appears that "South Africa's most professional" service is unable to provide the sane service for longer than a week.

What a bunch of unprofessional w@nkers!
