Who's seen the new DSL192 ad? The one with the mom and kids on the couch in front of the fan? I laughed so hard. What they are saying is that DSL192 is so slow, you need a fan to give you any impression of "speed" while on the net! Also, they seem to be using a "massive" 12 point font for the "ISP Costs excluded" message. Better than the micro 6 point font message of earlier ads. But we are quite happy with our ISDN 128K thank you, pulled over a gig this weekend for R17 bucks and still going strong...

mmmmm, while ISDN has its flaws, it is easy to download more than 2.2GB in one weekend. I got the latest Fedora Core 3 DVD over a torrent last weekend, plus all the web surfing and small downloads... Oh and as you said gaz, it cost me 15 bucks...and i'm not gonna hit any type of cap...ever.....

Until InfiniteCall is done away with ;) . Then you reach the bill's cap...

I saw that ad,what a stupid piece of crap don`t they know the fan must be on the low speed setting.

Right lets sent a complaint to you know who and make them change the ad so that the fan turns slower.

The speed of the fan isn't the problem :) The problem is that the marketing people were so stupid, they didn't realise that having the fan there did the opposite to what they intended - "get the impression of high speed at home". ie: get the impression of high speed at home with a FAN not with ADSL coz it's fusking SLOOOOOW....

Shame

I just got to feel sorry for you though... imagine - being happy with Telkom ISDN. Nothing personal, it just shows the sad state of affairs in this country. BTW how do you download a gig for R17, I thought the service cost R40+ per month anyway (download or no download). What happens when you have a power failure on the weekend? Another R7? I'm not having a dig at you, though - but at Telkom. I think we all know the rest of the story...

Yes it is sad and pathetic being happy with ISDN, but i like to be at least mildly positive. If you agree that we can exclude all line rental/infint call costs since ADSL also has similar charges, then for actual data, it's R17 for 2.2GIGS (2 infinit calls over the weekend). Power failures happen once a year or so, so not a big deal - we do have a ups :)

True enough Gaz, but you don't have flexibility of being able to download whenever you want at a decent rate.

Sometimes I condsider going back to the R60 dialup ISP with Hellkom inifinit call (or whatever the f@ck it's called) with just the R87 rental, inifite call at R7 and your monthly fees - my bill used to average R400 a month.

Not worth it is it ?
For a slow, time limited connection R400 is just too much.

It's too much for flipping 512DSL too !

I hate that ad, but also all the Telkom ADSL ads with the speedy ganzalas song! I hate them all. They are so low budget and just pure crap, I mean, how bad is that ad with the person dressing up as a biker? I was rolling on the floor laughing. What cracks me up about the DSL192 ad is the mention of the words "Super fast internet access". Bring it on Telkom .... let us laugh some more.

The sad reality

is that there are soooo many (unlike ourselves) out there who think that t31k0m are doing a good job... can you believe it... I come across so many people who don't even have a clue what all the fuss is about... doesn't help...

If they're connected, refer them to the Hellkom site.
If they're not, ask them if they're aware that $iswe got a R11M bonus last year (of their money!) for doing essentially f-all.
That'll quickly make them aware - I've been doing this quite successfully for the past few months...

The whole thing is just there are stupid F*CKS that actually believe them and then think its a bargain. Stupid public

Ok, that makes me in particular very stooopid bcos I didn't know anything at all before I got to MyADSL ;).

I now know a lot more than before & am learning everyday thanks to forumites.

Theorem proved: we need to inform the TV watching "dumb-masses" :D out there, preferably as cheaply & effectively as possible :) (so I vote against: a TV advert or a full-page-spread or a page 3 stint).

The minute we get MyADSL & Hellkom TV ads, telskelm will hang themselves, why don't we make/ask for donations to have an ad put up on TV :D . That will be the revolution.

We must all see Telkom as a government body. Much like the US goverment, @%&@#$ everything around them they get away with it. Why? Simply put, there is never enough sceptics and sceptics gets labelled very quickly as conspiracy theorists.

Its gullable I know, but Telkom is pretty much using and abusing with these ads to make us appear to the general public as conspiracy theorists.

As some wise guy once say,

"A theory is an idea, when enough proof gathered this theory becomes a fact. This is pretty much standard logic even in the scientific world"

Infinitcall (or what ever) might be nice for downloading a bunch of stuff over the weekend... if that is the extent of your internet experience, good for you.

I'll take the 24hour access of ADSL over ISDN at time, thank you!
