I see Telkom has a new website....atleast it is a bit easier to navigate now...

Crap, make sure that everyone takes copies of their old website stuff, so that they cannot just slip a "change" past us without seeing it.

It's about time they redesigned the total mess of a website they had previously.
There were so many damn links on it, it took 5 minutes to scan the screen to find out what you were looking for.

And an amazing development - they have Price List as a main link - my G0d, never thought I'd see the day that happened.

All in all, a vast improvement on the old layout, unless your TheRoDent of course, but he seems to be dissing everything in sight today - must be in a bad mood...

LETS HAVE SOME POSITIVITY AROUND HERE FOR A CHANGE !

But the design...*shakinghead* its still terrible. I wonder what "specialist" has done this "crime"

It's subjective.

I tell you why it IS a good design - it's fast, easy to use, lightweight in graphics and the biggest thing - it works in ALL browsers.

I just checked it in lynx - works fine.

Telkom should be about information, not pretty websites - they are finally going in the right direction.

People just want to knock it because it's the Big Bad Telkom - yes, we all know Telkom are an evil company at the top, but there is some good in it down the bottom, as we know from the techies we've met.

To my opinion such a big company like Telkom should not use a "Homepage" version, like every John and Joe on the road. There are other simple but better looking solutions...

This is for example the German Telkom ADSL Site

Not sure what you mean, but believe me, I aint gonna sit here defending their website :D
I just think it's a damn side better than it was - fact is, I can now find what I really want to look for - their exorbitant costs - without spending 10 minutes doing it.

A quicker route to a near heart attack in other words :D

the previous site was code-heavy and sucked completely.. even though this new site wont win any prizes its faster, although i wont sit admiring its beauty all day.

I'm very lazy...

If anyone happens to do the DSL Exchange Enabled test, which is still broken, please send me a p.m. - I'm too lazy to go back there everyday trying the same thing...clicking 20 trillion links to get there [I expect that Telkomonopoly will change the links to avoid ASASA & ICASA nailing them...so I don't bother bookmarking anything on awfulmonopoly.co.za]...

Looks better than the old one, from a webdesigner view. " Al dra a aap 'n goue ring bly hy 'n lelike ding! " :D

I will agree that from an aesthetic POV the new design is less likely to make me run amock with AK47s on an enraged shooting spree - just after using the old site [design]...but I still find the new site [design] somewhat irritating...and what concerns me is that some of the stuff that used to work before has not been ported/redesigned/developed & isn't working now...some links are also going to bizare places...I'm sure they will get it right at about the time when I only have to use the Telkomonopoly site once a year - if that...

I was part of a team that started work on the redesign of the Telkom company way back in 1998, when I was still a bit of an Api at web design.

I won't say who the company was, but all I will say was the organisation was an unmitigated disaster of the highest degree.

The whole thing went off on this wierd tangent where each division or product grouping had a different style done by a different designer - it was insane.

The upshot is that the project was canned, but the company I worked for walked away with R300 000 as that was the upfront non-negotiable payment.

Those were the days around the time of the dot com boom when the whole web industry was full of shysters, some of whom made a killing.
