Confusing table, can you clean it up please mybb?

wait, so now its going to be even cheaper for call centers to bother regular users?

because lets face it we don't really send SMS or make calls, its all whats app, viber and skype nowadays, with data being cheaper than making calls I still struggle to see what the fuss is about.

want to get more users on your network? get more LTE coverage, and an unlimited data plan with a high end device at an affordable rate, sort of like the telkom mobile deal but just you know, not with telkom....

+1
Always said Data if the future gold mine for Telecommunication / Cellphone companies as Voice Revenue is declining at an alarming rate

The Asymmetry rate drop is weird.. are they preparing for the operators to reject the final one so doing so 2c at a time? why not just do it 8c a year?

Confusing table, can you clean it up please mybb?

We've added some clarifications to the table. Otherwise, it is exactly as presented by Icasa this morning.

Better? Useful? Understandable?

The confusing parts:

Blank spaces in the table - what does this mean?

"Assymetry" is also a bit confusing - is this the rate that larger operators will pay to smaller operators? In the previous table (http://mybroadband.co.za/news/telecoms/88405-new-call-termination-rates-expect-backlash.html) the headings of "To Vodacom, MTN" were more explicit.

Same goes for FTR (assume this stands for "Fixed Termination Rate"?)

Hopefully we can now see some immediate reduction in call costs.

Given the fact that we have almost a month before the rates kick-in.

60c per Minute to other Mobiles & Fixed Networks.

20c SMS to all Networks.

20c Mb of Data

Blank spaces in the table - what does this mean?

Those blanks were left by Icasa. Nothing was said about the 2017 regulated rate, from what I heard. In all likelihood it means that the 2016 rate will carry over to 2017, but I didn't want to present anything they didn't.

We've tried to explain that in the second and fourth paragraphs.

Follow-up articles will be a little more explicit, I imagine. This was to get the info provided by Icasa out as they provided it, while trying to explain it as best and briefly as we can.

Indeed, I had updated the table with the expanded acronym – I'm hoping you just got served a cached version of the page.

That would be good pricing

With this pricing - Operators Still have a Margin of 80% Profit.

So lets see how they react.

Hopefully they are smart and use wisdom to capitalize quickly.

Baxsteen, you seem to be very out of touch with the South African market, for example how many sub R100 Nokia phones do you know that can run Skype?

The reality is the bulk of money is made on voice calls, dropping the interconnect rate stops the extreme profits and promotes intelligent network design, I just hope regulation helps out on this (i.e. make it easier to deploy fibre backhaul).

The bigger question is who qualifies for the asymmetry - does any old VOIP provider also get the benefit? That would be counter to the point of assisting operators get more revenue to roll out infrastructure, I hope it only applies to those who have frequency allocations.

On the comment about call centres, they use VOIP routing already, so it won't really change much there. I would like to see better regulation to force them to use registered numbers so you know who is calling and manage the SMS SPAM/phishing arena better.

*Yawn* Voice is so yesterday, when last did we have any "real play" on the data front(and not promo extensions pls.)?

Otherwise, GOOD STUFF nonetheless, this "cheapskate" always welcomes any reduction.

Call Termination Regulations 2014

How to Capitalise on the Regulations

Cell-C / Telkom-Mobile

Considering the new regulations place Cell-C / Telkom-Mobile at a distinct advantage for 3 years.
This window of opportunity needs to be maximized immediately.

What Can be done immediately ?

Cell-C have launched the All in one vouchers for
R49 with Only On Network Minutes & SMS
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This must be opened up to all networks immediately
with 100 minutes to any network – ( R20 Net Termination Rate Payable )
With 100 SMS to any Network – ( R0-00 Termination Fee Payable )
With 100 MB of Data - ( R2-00 Net Cost to operator )

Net Profit of R22 after Expenses
This will stimulate Customers to Join Cell-C and move away from MTN & Vodacom which will create a nice platform
for incoming Asymmetrical Termination Revenue.
This will also create a balanced load on the network and Customers can call anytime of the Day during the month.

Cell-C needs to revise it pricing and submit to ICASA immediately on a permanent basis.
