I am looking to get ADSL at my home, preferably with a 4Mbps line. Currently i am looking at going with mweb, but maybe someone else has a better ISP in mind ? I am looking to play online and download the odd movie or series, is it worth it to get a 4Mbps line or will 2Mbps be fine ?
If you can please let me know which ISP you prefer and whether or not I need a 2Mbps or 4Mbps line, thanks in advance.

4mb's uncapped, unshaped. Uncapped for movies and updates and unshaped for gaming,

2 Mbps is fine for what you describe.

Get the line from Telkom.

Get a capped ISP that doesn't require a calendar month cancellation notice such as Webafrica, Openweb, Mweb. Afrihost is ok and cheap. Crystalweb might suit your profile too.

Check for a 2mb premium package. The premium has a higher Fare usage policy and its less expensive than a 4mb line. If you plan to download and play at the same time go for a 4mb

Thought I would give mweb uncapped trial a go today, signed up and started testing. Latency was higher than on my current isp, I simply could not stream 720p youtube content as it buffered the whole time, 480p was fine. Torrents were completely dead as in nothing nada, zip, zilch. Rebooted my router and got a message that I've already been registered for the trial or something to that effect so that was that

Also trying webafrica, speeds seem ok, have not check latency, torrents suck.

Spend a bit of time reading through the varios ISP forums on here BEFORE you take the plunge .... could save you a heap of trouble.

A bit hectic to expect a newbie to sift through tons of threads and posts (many who contains contrasting information). My 2c would be for him to grab some free trial accounts before making a choice. Most isps have free trials. Whether the trial account speeds are comparible to the full accounts however i would not know. The temptation might be there to offer trial accounts with perfect performance in order to hook a customer. As for uncapped vs capped. If you just want to d/l a few movies and series then no need to go uncapped. Get something with a realistic cap compared to what you expect to download. Just my 2c.

Torrents will be dead during business hours. Schedule them to download after midnight. That being said, yesterday I had full line speed during the day on torrents, probably because it was a public holiday.
