Hi there. Im wanting to get a system to watch dstv. We only have one TV and I imagine its a fairly easy install, mounting and getting the cable to the t.v. Ive got an old analogue crt tv with video in and a creative 5.1 thing. Ill upgrade tv later when more cash appears, please.
I live in the Cape near the sea. Im thinking pvr and dish. What types, are there differences and what are they, cost of gear, where to buy and cost to install etc. Ive been quoted R7500 for complete install with Stainless steel dish. Or been told if I provide the pvr myself he will do the install with a dish for R2500.
Could I install my self? Im quite handy and can climb and mount at will... Im more worried about the pointing of the dish and if you need equipment?
Sooo, any advice much aprretiated

R7500 **** you being ripped off!
Rather go to Makro or do it yourself, like Juggy said it is possible but very dificult to do it yourself.
You can do it without the specialised equpment but will need to have the LNB connect to your decoder and play around with the DIsh and LNB till you get the settings right.
You have to have a point reference for the dish so if your neighbours have one that will help, but since you were willing to spend R7500 rather go to makro and pay R4000 with instalation :)

*Cough* I was certainly not thinking of paying R7500 untill I had phoned around or spoken to the good people of MyBB :)
Shot for the info.

...although the makro offer seems to not be available anywhere right now checking availability.

Installation is easy, I did it with my brother screaming instructions from the living room. It is a lot easier if you can see the neighbors dish and use that as reference to where to point it to. Then just go to signal detection in the decoder menu and start scanning the dish till you get a good signal...

I also did a self install, checked my neighbours dish and aligned mine by site laid the cable to decoder and then TV went to dstv decoder powered up and signal was 100% :)
Got back onto the roof and fasted everything down...

What a lucky fluke!

Love telling that story :)

Do that every time I move. :D

Except this last time. Dish came with the house

Dude, don't get DStv. Save yourself the grey hairs, sommer buy uncapped ADSL and download what you want, probable cheaper than what you've been quoted too ;)
