New to iBurst, need more speed

I got connected to iBurst today and I'm getting 100% signal strength with about 7% error on average yet my speeds are hovering around 220kb/s

I've got an aerial which I'll install on the weekend, but I would have thought that 100% signal and low errors would have meant better speeds :(

Oh yeah, I'm connecting to the Randpark Ridge Tower
 
Well first of all, JHB is way more congested than any other city in SA, especially Northcliffe. Do a ping test and post your results. My guess is that high latency is what's causing your speed degration.

Start - Run - Type "command" - type "ping www.mybroadband.co.za" and press enter.

Your local pings are fine. I think your best option would be to download UT Tracestar and check the load on your tower.
 
I tried that, but it says it can't pick up my desktop modem connected via USB...any ideas?
 
You have to set it to ethernet, and then configure your LAN connection's IP. I'm not entirely sure what the IP should be though, but there are alot of people on here who will know.

LOL. Fine? Those are pretty bad local pings man.. Anyway, mybroadband.co.za is better for CPT users and iburst.co.za is generally better to ping for JHB users.

USB or Ethernet works fine for UTtracestar, but either way you must set your IP of the connection which connects to the modem to what Who.is.Michael suggested.

I suppose it would be your tower causing the bad speeds, people were complaining about the Randburg tower the other day werent they? But it was apparently fixed, however I think the tower is a high load on anyway. You'll be able to see once you get UTtracestar running. The load goes from 0-3, 0-1 is very good and 2 can still be acceptable or could be getting overloaded, 3 is definitely overloaded. However at night load should be less than during the day.

Well that all looks fine doesnt it? Not sure about that Media Disconnected part you are connected so its fine, that cant have much to do with speeds.
Installing that antenna should make a difference, it helps you get the best out of your basestaion. Even if you have good signal it can always get better and it means you get more "attention" from your basestation, higher priority I guess.

Hmm.. and the two bigshots with their >-60db connection have to post their amazing pings dont they? :( :p JJ

Which towers are you connecting to and how far are you away from the tower and what is your signal strength?
 
Hes on my tower, Plumbstead. But he's hogging all of my bandwidth!

Its a good tower, even thought the load seems to stay around 2 lately.

Hi there EHV

So there is nothing wrong with your tower, so when are we going to see the antenna going up? Sorry had to put the pings up took such a long while sorting the iBurst thingy out....

How is your new user coming along, have you suggested he moves his UTD around yet? And have you warned him about the IP's of death and etc.
 
Im currently on a .69 IP after reading your guys other thread, maby I'll try 70 too.

But my pings don't get much better, it's simply my connection limiting them. I could put my antenna in or on my roof and get a much better connection, but im too lazy now, im just waiting it out for the Constantia tower to give me better signal as i would have to move everything around then anyway, its in the opposite direction to Plumstead.

The new user is in JHB btw, he shouldnt have IP of Death problems. ANd moving his modem and antenna will onlt raelly help when he has got UTtracestar working, he has "full" signal according to iBurst's monitoring. I guess he could work with his pings, but UTts is easier.
 
That's exceptional!

You must be sitting right on the doorstep of the building where the array is situated. I wonder what difference an antenna would make, burnout your UTD?

Well actually like he said hes a km or so away. The building that has the antenna array on top of it is actually a flat block. Now I knew someone who lives pretty high up in the exact flat block where the antenna is, that would have been a really amazing signal.

If you ran your UTD with PoE like you do Micheal then you could have put it on the roof and just taped it right onto one of the antennas!
