New to iBurst, need more speed

Before I did that test I thought I was +_1km away in a straight line, looks like I am a little further as I said and I can't see the tower or array from my window even though I am upstairs.
Plenty of trees and some buildings in the tower direction as well as a tree +_1.5m from my modem between it and the tower.

Some day I will try an antenna to see if the signal improves not that I think it will make any difference to the speeds I get.

hmm.. maby. But the jump into 300 didnt look great and the higher 100's neither..

But it can happen, and I guess I get in the 100's when I ping to JHB (iburst.co.za) so maby it wasnt that bad, but it didnt look nice :)
 
Hey, Micheal btw I'm currently on a .64 IP. And the performance is good.

Maybe they have fixed it? You said it was still dead or at least dying yesterday, seems fine now. I changed to a .70 IP last night, but I guess it changed sometime during the night.
 
It's Intermittent !

That's the crap with IP64/66 of death its intermittent, so you can never tell. One minute it is fine the next, your connection slows to a crall or you get disconnected and stuck with another 64/66.

Thats what happened to me as I said in another thread, the base station forced me to a "64" which did not work as I stated.

They can't fix it since they do not know how to, and best is for them to remove those bad IP 4 ranges from service until they can figure out whats wrong with them.

I'm going to install my directional aerial this weekend, who knows, I might be able to improve things
 
The signal looks good, but the pings don't really.

Is that 2 Load at 9:50, ie when you posted? Because if so that looks pretty bad, if you get 3 load during the day you've got problems. In which case improving the signal can only help so much.. you might want to try using that directional antenna to connect to a less congested tower, even if the signal is a bit worse.

I'm sure people here can tell you whether Randpark Ridge is an acceptable tower and what else is in the area that might be better.

Viceroy, sadly the tower is a great big part of the problem.

I have been experiencing degraded performance over the past 2 months as well. I'm 800m LOS from the tower.

It all changed for me minutes after a major thunderstorm - though I've been repeatedly told that nothing's wrong with the tower (but I still reckon something happened :sick: )

I used to get an average of under 65ms to iburst .. day or nite ..

A sad thing of the past...

Reality is that any wireless service is a best effort service. If you want consistent speeds and consistent pings look for a cabled service like adsl or a DEDICATED wireless service like future wimax offerings or Sentech's BizNET offering.
 
Towers wise .. there is supposedly a new honeydew tower (not visible to me) and then there's the notorious nortcliff tower.

If you are on the ridge that overlooks little falls there are 3 other towers on that valley area that may be of use to you.
 
I can see quite a few other towers around, but non at the moment are worth connecting to, but it might change this weekend when the antennae goes up.

If the Randpark Ridge tower is on top of the water tower which is behind Rock Cottage then I can see it about 500m away from my window...definate line of sight.

-Soweto
-Morningside
-Primrose Hill
-Kyalami Castle
-Killlarney
-Morningside

I've just hung the modem out of the window and have picked up a decent Linden signal....Will try get that tomorrow.

Nope, seems I'm stuck with either Randpark Ridge with an almost constant load of 2 or Northcliff with a load of 3. I just can't seem to get a decent lock on Linden with the Antennae
