Greetings fellow BB users,

Yep today my wife and I received our new BB 9800 Torch's:love: and we are the happiest new kids on the block with the new toys.

A special word of THANKS to OCLEROUX for his unselfish assistance in this whole process. OC, you are the man!!:)

My only concern is how to do the right setup on them for internet and BIS and where I can learn how to get the maximum out of my new Torch?

Any advice would be appreciated!!

Hi Aviator. You dont have to set anything up when it comes to settings on the phone really. All you need to do is have BIS activated on your line (if it is not already). Once the service is live on your line, Vodacom will push all the service books to your phone that it will need to funtion as god intended.

All you have to setup really is your mail. Look for the mail setup icon and simply follow the pormpts. Also look out for the Blackberry Messenger icon. You and wifey will save a lot of money with this little thing instead of sending SMS's. You will need your pin numbers to add each other as contacts on BBM. This can be found on the box underneth the IMEI number.

You will see this screen a lot when you browse/try to browse the internet on BIS, but it's actually a built-in blackberry feature. :p

OC, what are your views on upgrading the OS on a Bold 9700 to OS6 (the latest version out is 448)?

My Blackberry 9300 is running smoother than a twinks bottom on OS6.448. No probs. The only thing that irritates me slightly is that there is no curror in BBM so you cant copy and paste certain parts of a conversation. But that is no biggie. :-)

Also contemplating on doing the upgrade.....any news on official OS6 for the 9700?

I am with MTN, and have the Bold 9700.

So far, all I do know, is BACKUP lol.. But at this stage, even with a backup, if I mess up, I would not yet know how to retrace my steps.
So, step by step guides, here I come!

1. Download the file
2. Run the file and let it install.
3. Go into your C drive. Go into program files, then common files. Go into Research in Motion folder. Delete the "Vendor" file.
4. Plug your phone in. Double click on the "Loader.exe" file. Follow the steps. It will do a back up and restore automatically for you.

I must however admit that I have had excellent service from Vodacom in Cape Town at more than one store and then also the infallible OCLEROUX!

Now just a question on wi-fi, when using it on the wireless network in my house with our CellC dongle and router, can I still surf the net without incurring costs (data costs) with Vodacom?

Oh shucks....you flatter me :-)

I have never used the wifi feature on my phone...but yes, you should be able to browse with no data charges being incurred, apart from the data being charged to your Cell C (or taken off your bundle with them).

Can the guys that uses wifi on their BB's just confirm this please.

Your data costs are already built in with the BIS contract, so wi-fi isn't really necessary.

just press the uppercase key on ur BB and the cursor will show on BBM.....works on my 9700 OS6 .448
