Never done wifi before. I have an old HTPC in the lounge which I would like to link to my laptop and smartphone with wifi to copy mp3s and photos between the devices. I understand its called an ad-hoc connection.

Using some e-bucks I am considering buying one of the following USB wifi adapters:

Which one is best? (I have about R200 worth of ebucks) Do they all do ad-hoc connections? (Yeah I know some are bluetooth adapters, I am looking at the wifi ones)
All advice will be greatly appreciated.

For the amount of crap and effort you'd have with Ad-hoc you might as well just a Wireless Access point and plug the HTPC right into it ;)

So its hard to do?
Surely its much faster and can only be easier than bluetooth connections?

Ad-Hoc is spotty, finnicky, and not as widely supported as regular Wifi

+1 to PsyWulf's suggestion of getting a dedicated Wireless Access Point instead of using silly ad-hoc setup.

You can get Wireless Access Points for pretty cheap, although I haven't looked if Kalahari stocks them though.

Yep,fairly easy to setup if you are familiar with Networking
