Hi,

I just got my MyWireless modem yesterday. I cannot connect and nobody at Sentech seem to be able to help me. I live in Weltevreden Park. On the one side of my house I get a 16% signal to base station 82. On the other side I get a 9% signal to base station 110.

I cannot even connect to the registration page. I get 'Remote computer did not respond'.

My signal to noise ratio is -98 dBm.

Somebody PLEASE help! What must I do. I have reinstalled the software 5 times now without any luck.

Sentech tells me that the tower can see my modem but my modem cannot see the tower. Does that make sense?

How can I get them to check if my modem is registered? They didn't have a clue what I meant when I asked them.

For what it's worth, there are times when I get "Remote computer did not respond" and I just keep on trying, and after a few minutes that remote computer seems to wake up and respond, and I get connected.

Hang in there..I went through a week of that before I could connect. I just moved the modem to the other side of the house where I got 4 lights, which wasn't there the week before by the way. I didn't have the modem signal reader so I didn't even know what the signal was, I was just too happy to see 4 lights. Last few days I've only had 2 lights and 13% but if I keep retrying it connects(touch wood).

yo dude
i'm at constantia kloof, so very close to you

sentech support has no idea what the hell they're talking about, the "modem sees tower but tower doesn't see modem" is a bunch of crap. I get covered by tower 82, 66,12,2 and sometimes even 110. I do get the occasional "remote computer did not respond" too.

BUT, check your device's software version!!! (Click on Device on the modem dialer)

Check if the version isn't older than 4.2.1.0... my modem had a version of 4.2.0.0b and I had to get it flashed before it worked... and yes, I constantly got the "remote computer did not respond" error

so check that, and let support know they're full of ****, I spent over 4 hours with support on my CELLPHONE for the first 2 weeks, then I just started bitching like a mother****er and decided to contact the head honcho's at fastcomm myself

CHECK YOUR VERSION
:) otherwise, if you'd like, and if i have the time, I could swing by your house with my modem and we can test it from there

BTW, support will always tell you to re-install the software, I even re-formatted my ****ing PC because they said so.... DONT TRUST SUPPORT

come here rather, don't waste your money on calling them, they suck ass

YES YOU DO YOU ****ERS

Is it possible to flash the modem by yourself? Or do you need to "take it in" or something. What are the advantages of the flash upgrade and lastly do all the modems come packaged with the old version?

Well, I dont know about your problems,
But I do know that tower can see you but you cant see the tower aint crap. That does happen, the modem strength display is only the signal from the tower to you, it's not you to the tower (pretty stupid huh)

And my proof of this is the kinglsey tower when the other's were not up yet.
Kingsley i about 10 to 15km's away from me, so there's no chance my modem is going to send anything to it. But the strength gave 9%.
It is possible to connect on a 9% signal, even a 3% signal, but
but the important part is your communications to the tower, wich was in my case, impossible. (That's why the remote computer doesnt respond... he didnt hear you, but he talks pretty loud)

Also that db stuff. 98 was mine when I didnt connect. 91 was mine when I did connect. I doubt you gonna get connected on 98.
I think that signal strength i pretty useless. It might be the db that matters more than anything else, else a balacne of the bunch.

Anyways... why dont you try to get fastcom people that test or something like that, and get antenna.

Yesterday we drove around with a laptop and the modem. Would you believe that I could connect right outside my complex gates! :(

Apparently, my place lies in a little dip that causes my signal not to reach the tower. Gonna try the Pringles thing tonight. Trying to find a connector for the antenna. Then I can build one myself.

Fastcomm is out of stock till April. Don't wanna wait that long.

Hi all,

I am in the process of organizing MyWireless (256k Flavor) and was hoping to find someone who is based in roughly the same area to see what their thoughts are, I stay in Durban north, Ennisdale Drive, pretty close to the Northlands Girls High School.

Anyone currently connected anywhere close to that...

Thanx for the info,
Cheers for now.

Cell phones work the same way, you only see the signal strength that the phone picks up from the cellular network's tower. But cell phones are "smart" in that they show you a zero signal strength unless the tower can "see" you (in other words, if you will actually be able to make a call on the tower provided the network is not busy).
Maybe the wireless modems aren't so smart.

Thanx ProAsm

Thats Great to hear, So you're saying I will have my choice of the best signal from 3 different Base Stations...

Where is Base station 60 ?

Listen ProAsm, thanx for all your help throughout the Forums, I've been reading through them alot, and you have been most helpfull in many casess.

Cheers for now.

Hello,

I'm in Horison Extension 1... I had similar problems. The "Remote computer did not respond" seems to be a catch-all error. Eventually I had to get a new username and password before it would work.

At the moment, my system seems to sometimes connect to base station 82, and at other times to 110. Works well :-)

FOR ANYONE CONSIDERING GETTING MYWIRELESS, I'd STRONGLY recommend that you borrow someone else's modem before buying, just to make sure!!

Hi ProAsm

You where right, I took a drive there, it was exactly 2Kms, so as the crow flies would be about 1 to 1.5 Kms. In fact, I think I just about see the tower from my house (can see the top of some tower, which is in the right direction). So, yea, looks like I'm going to be having no problem with Signal, Just hope my signing up process goes smoothly.

Cheers guys.
