Hi all
So I migrated my Telkom DSL to Afrihost VDSL 20mbps.
At the moment I still have my (excellent) TPlink AC wifi adsl2+ modem.
Could anyone advise as to the best setup going forward? What I envisage is getting a VDSL router (probably the ZyXel or Billion) and then connecting it to the TPLink router and using the TPlink as the main network point (because it just works so well).

Is this possible? I really don't want to buy another ac modem just for the VDSL connectivity.
Mike

Yes you could try make the tplink an AP only and disable Dhcp on it and let the vdsl modem do your Dhcp.

Get the Zyxel 1312 as it's the cheapest (This is based on you using the to link as your ap)

Just for what it is worth, the ZyXEL has excellent wifi, but you can totally do what you want to in the OP

I'll get this one http://www.zyxel.com/za/en/products_services/vmg1312_b_series.shtml?t=p and then you disable the wifi on it or.... you can have another SSID and have two wifi network... Maybe one for you yummy yummy and one for the guests that is capped ( The ZyXEL can do it).

So VDSL -> ZyXEL <-Lan Cable-> TPlink AC wifi adsl2+ modem(DHCP disabled) <- Devices connect via wifi

Thanks. I eventually settled on the billion 8800. Piece of cake to set up. I actually did better using the tplink as the DHCP server, turning the wifi on the billion off and bobs your uncle.

I hate billion!!

Don't blame you. The 8800 is a solid VDSL device, but the WiFi range is abysmal. Also erratic latency to the gateway.
I'm in touch with Tarsus trying to find a workaround. They acknowledge that the internal antenna's aren't ideal.
