That fix only worked until MS fixed it.
MSE2.0 could go the same if MS realize they enabled it by mistake for Windows 2008 as they will lose MS Forefront sales.
This is possible as the MS website still does not include 2008 as an option.

I just tested the Vista/Win 7 64 bit link another machine and the install still works on 2008. Saved the offline install for safekeeping. :)

and Windows Server 2003?
There are only 3 installs. XP 32 bit, Win7/Vista 32 bit and Win7/Vista 64 bit so the XP install might work for you.
The XP 32 bit install might even work if you are using 2003 64 bit.

You can test for us.

Really?
Cause Microsoft's site says nothing about this.

It won't, cos the other anti-virus companies are already cheesed-off with Microsoft's free offering & if they advertise it as freeware for Windows servers, expect the anti-trust law suits to roll in.

It's actually unreal, cos a Windows server anti-virus program is insanely expensive.

Hmmm, I've just done some reading on it... and the guys at MSDN say you should not do it since the server platforms address memory and hard drive partitions and file systems in different ways to client operating systems. MSE is not optimised to work with those differences. It may work fine up until the time it encounters a virus that it has to clean from your system, but after that you may suffer data loss. I'm not willing to take that chance with the company server. I'll just pay the license for a proper server optimised anti-virus package.

My only problem is that I cannot download Updates for MSE like I do for AVG.
IOW, I download AVG update files from work, put on stick and update at home.
Can one do this with MSE?

No it resides on your PC at Home thus is only update-able from your HOME PC!
