I just bought a Virgin sim for data purposes only, at first I was impressed with the charging rate and the connection was not that bad, full speed GPRS...that is the first day.

Second day I was more impressed I had an EDGE connection but that was only for 2 minutes...it kept on disconnecting when changing from the EDGE to GPRS...it did so till I was frustrated and all the impression just died :(

Thought I tell my side of the story with virgin, guess Virgin is not all Virgin after all!! :p :p

Are you certain your Edge 'signal' is strong enough, it would explain the switch back to GPRS? You'll experience the same thing with bad 3g coverage, the data card goes back to GPRS.

Shouldntdisconnect u though? I change from gprs to edge and it dont affect me? But i dont use phone as modem. i just use phone internet.

I must say their service is good. I told them i have no service in area, they replied and said i must roam on vodacom. Which i did and i replied and said its working. They replied and siad they gonna send somebody out to test the signal

I manage to connect through edge most of the time. 80kbps up to 190kbps, though the higher speeds are less often. The data rate has changed to 60c per MB. They told me so in my itemised billing.

Well I always just used GPRS and have never had a problem with my data on my phone. Plus the low data rates are nice too.
