Default APN on a Vodacom iPhone should be iphone.vodacom.za
Weird they sent you that message though... maybe someone is playing a prank on you?

Strange you say this... my GFs phone also has these settings, but they don't work... and it's strange that it does, there is no top level domain duch as ".za" only...

Don't think domain when you think APN. Yes, it looks like a web address but it's only an APN - APN can be anything the networks wants...

I worked out this mystery. If you are on a contract its always been iphone.vodacom.za if you prepaid you use internet. Vodacom does indeed send out incorrect settings sms's if you were to use iphone.vodacom.za on a prepaid sim etc.

However I discovered that to use visual voicemail you need to be on iphone.vodacom.za which obviously caused a problem. After finally getting hold of someone at vodacom that had a clue he activated the iphone apn for my phone, so now my prepaid sim works on iphone.vodacom.za and visual voicemail is working too.

So in summary, if you using anything other than a vodacom iphone contract sim card you can ring them up and ask them to activate the iphone apn for you.

The APN "internet" will work on both contract and pre-paid. The APN "iphone.vodacom.za" will also work on contract and pre-paid (as long as it has been activated on your account). Regardless, it is better to use iphone.vodacom.za for extra features (like visual voicemail and whatever else Apple offers us in the future).

My boss just got his iPhone on his upgrade (contract) and he still got the SMS saying his settings were wrong. Doesn't seem to be a pre-paid issue. Maybe it's if you using the iphone.vodacom.za APN on your phones (default for new iPhones) but the APN hasn't been activated on your line yet?
