New WD Elements portable drive issues

The quality of the WD external drives seems to have gone down with the recent models. I bought a 1.5TB external for my wife late last year. The case seems to be made of a cheap flimsy plastic and overall it looks quite cheaply made.

I have personally 4 different sizes of WD My Passports. The oldest is maybe 15 years old and is a 320GB model and has performed flawlessly so far. It serves duty now as a media drive for my kids TV.
 
That explains why it does not compare to my old 2tb that I have had for years. Any suggestions on what to get if one is still looking for a portable 4tb drive? Maybe a portable SSD although I imagine those are way more expensive
