Resurrecting an old K3765 USB dongle
Before I retired from Jhb & moved to the WC, I could not get a Telkom line in my Jhb home, so I relied on a Vodaphone K3765 USB modem for internet connectivity on my (old & now deceased) laptop.
I now use a ASUS X54C laptop, connected to my Billion 400G ADSL router for my data needs.
But the increasing Eskom Load Shedding has now prompted me to have a back-up internet connection as an alternative to my Telkom ISP ADSL.
Scratching through my study drawers today, I found the Vodafone K3765 USB modem which I used in Jhb, and see this as a possible solution to the increasing power outages we have due to load-shedding.
I have totally forgotten how I installed and used that K3765 while in Jhb, and would appreciate some input from anyone who can guide me through the installation & set up of the K3765 USB modem, to use on my ASUS X54C laptop, running Win 8.1 64-bit.
I Guess I would need to buy a pre-paid SIM for it, and possibly upgrade the K3765 firmware?
What size SIM does the K3765 use?
I would then buy the SIM and and load a data bundle onto the SIM.
I don't know which mobile provider will have the best signal here in Swellendam .. any way of finding that out?
I always used to use Ginng's software to manage the interface between laptop & the dongle ... is this still in use & available?
Thanks in advance for any help offered
