I'm looking at upgrading my now 3 year old Intel 8700k to AMD Ryzen 5000 series. Usage will be for 4K / 8K video editing / 2D & 3D animation and a bit of game play.

These are the parts I'm considering;

AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16 Core Socket AM4R18,499
Gigabyte X570 AORUS ULTRA AMD AM4 X570R6,639
64GB G.Skill F4-3600C16Q-64GTZNC Trident Z Neo (4x16GB) DDR4-3600MHz CL16R8,269
Fractal Design FD-PSU-IONP-860P-BK Ion+ 860W 80 Plus Platinum PSUR2,129
EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 FTW3 Ultra 8GBR15,999
Sabrent SB-RKT4P-1TB M.2 NVMe SSDR3,829
Fractal Design FD-W-2-S3602 360mm ARGB Liquid CPU CoolerR3,099
Phanteks PH-ES518XTG_DAG01 Enthoo Evolv X ChasisR3,129
TotalR61,592

These are Wootware's prices, as I'm looking at purchasing everything from them.

I'm not too sure on the GPU. The EVGA 3070 FTW3 is a lot more pricey than others in it's class, but features 3 fans and higher boost clocks.

I currently only have 2 x 27" Dell 1080p monitors which I will be upgrading at a later stage. Looking at an ultrawide 1440p monitor later in the year. Just can't afford anything more, as I'm already R20k over my original budget, but want this machine to last ±5 years, so will bite the bullet. I'll sell off my old hardware to recoup some of the costs, but I don't expect to get much for it.

Not sure if now is the right time to buy? Should I wait a while until stock is more readily available and prices come down? I don't particularly need a new system right now, but my current setup is getting a bit long in the tooth and struggles with 8K footage, and was planning on upgrading after 3 years.

I doubt prices will come down any time soon.

I got the MSI 3070 Gaming X Trio for R13,999 (also 3 fans and boosted clocks) and it runs beautifully.

Any reason for this case specifically? Are you planning on running dual-systems?

If not, something like the Lian-Li 011 Dynamic may be a better option.

Either way, I would add a case fan or two. You'll want decent airflow over the VRMs as you're running an AIO.

Thanks UrBan963!

I already have the exact same case - love it, although hate the colour - so was going to sell it and replace it with a dark grey version, but that's a waste of money actually so will consider something else. Will check out the Lian-Li. They always get good reviews over at GamersNexus.

Cool cool.

You could also just keep the existing case and upgrade to a 3080.

Do you need the X570 board's features? Also consider getting a B550 board.

As for prices coming down...

The world’s largest carmakers are facing a potentially crippling shortage of semiconductors, as chipmakers reserve supply for tech groups producing smartphones, tablets and gaming devices. Volkswagen said last month that the bottlenecks meant it would produce 100,000 fewer cars in the first quarter of the year at sites in Europe, North America and China, because its parts makers Continental and Bosch have struggled to secure supplies from their contractors.

Also, different article but no link:
Production is halted one or two weeks before the Chinese New Years Eve
While the Chinese New Year Eve is set on Friday, 12 February 2021, all suppliers start to wind down operations one to two weeks in advance.

Production is halted for at least two weeks after the Chinese New Years Eve
While the official holiday is only lasting for roughly 5 working days, plus two weekends, most workers remain in their home provinces for an extra week or two. This explains why most suppliers are not back in business until two, sometimes even three, weeks after the Chinese New Years’ Eve.

Edit: You could also look at the Phanteks P500 for something different than what you already have. I love my P600 and don't think you can go wrong with any Phanteks case.
