Hi All,
We have ADSL at the office that often gets capped out just before the end of the month. I had a great idea to put in ADSL at home as well which would not cap out and then "loan" the account to the office to see it through the last few days of each month.
Great idea until I found out today that I cant get ADSL in my area (Hyde Park/Dunkeld West).
So now the thoughts go to what I believe is the next best ie. iBurst.

How consistent is the speed office hours vs at night?
Would it be feasable (if not expensive) to get two modems one for home and one for the office and to share the account as and when needed as mentioned above?
Can the iBurst modem be plugged into my ethernet router at the offcie and shared much like I do with the ADSL modem?
Can one have simultaneous connections ie. home and office off the same account?
They talk about official launch in the next month or so. What would the implications be post official launch?
When will they stop charging ripoff prices for the modems as well as a crazy connection fee?
Is there a secondhand market yet for the modems?

What else have I forgotten???

TIA

Hi Samsat

1. Consistent? Clearly you need to read some of the threads in this forum. Consistent is a no feature with iBust at the moment

2. Yes iBust modem can be used on a network, i.e. plugged into the hub

3. Post launch, just means .... well nothing really. Just that they can no longer hide behind the banner of "soft phase, please excuse the crap service" :D

4. Activation fee will stay, price will stay (or actually go up if you consider they charging a reduced fee for the soft phase)

5. One iBurst account, to my knowledge, cannot be shared as each device as a unique code and your username is attached to this code. So your username cannot be "borrowed", apparently for security reasons, why you even need a username is debateable.

6. Personally, would definatelly say no second hand market at this point.

Why not consider just getting another ISP account on your ADSL line, cost max R275/month and you have another 3 gig allowance. That way, when one account runs out, you switch to the other and carry on. Personally, I would go with that option at this point in time, Can always cancel in 3 months once iBust turns to iBurst :D

Thanks for the input.
I may just get the second account at the office. Iwas just hoping to have something that I could use at home as well instead the bulk of the second 3 gigs going wasted each month at the office.

well wait I wouldn't say its not consistent, sure to some users who had problems on thier towers or upgrades etc etc thier speeds fluctuated, but I get 110 - 120KBps day or night.

and the post launch means you will no longer recieve a 35% discount and there will be a cap.

firstly which tower do you use mr slim, secondly which proxy, thirdly what do you use it for (http, vpn, ftp, etc since you don't do p2p)??

My service is definately not stable yet and I've had it for 3 months now.

IBurst Speeds

My iburst has been real consitant of late. Often staying connected 54hours +, well 900kbs+ in speed testing. My downloads are quick, and things are peachy at the moment.

I-burst terms and conditions

I have just downloaded the Application form from the I-burst website, and in it there is a point which says:
"7. Breach
7.1 In the event that the subscriber breaches any term of the agreement, or any warranty given by it hereunder, or fails to fulfil any obligation vesting upon them, including a failure to pay any amount owing to Service Provider on due date, then without prejudice to Service Provider other rights in terms of this agreement, Service Provider may forthwith and without notice to the subscriber either terminate this agreement or call for specific performance of all the subscriber's obligations an immediate payment of all sums of money owing by the subscriber whether or not then due in either event without prejudice to Service Provider right to seek such damages as it may have suffered by reason of such breach or failure.
7.2 Notwithstanding the aforegoing, Service Provider shall not be obliged to perform any of its obligations under this agreement and the subscriber shall remain liable for the payment of all amounts owing by the subscriber in terms of this agreement, whether or not such amounts are then due."

Now doesn't 7.2 sound like they (I-burst) don't have to fulfil their obligations? ie if you sign this you are agreeing you have no right to expect anything?????

I'm not a lawyer, but this does make me worried...

Thanks for input....

Well lets not forget its mobile, but mainly I am on the Kempton tower and which aside from times when it was being upgraded has been stable and given full speeds. And I use my connection for everything, I surf, check email, SSH to remote computers, stream TV channels as well as video, stream music and download 24/7, I also FTP using multiple FTP protocols, as my business requitres it (FTP, SFTP 1 & 2.. etc etc)

Click "get iburst", then click "sign-up", at bottom of page there is a message: " If you are experiencing problems with the on-line signup form please click here to download and fax the completed form to (011) 877 4751 "
Clicking the link brings up a pdf document which has application and t&c.

Question about cap

With I-GO Everywhere, do local AND international count towards cap, or are they being different to Telkom :p and just making it international?

Dovi, who knows - certainly not us customers. The only thing that is certain - the only bandwidth cap that's been implemented so far is a wonderful disconnection when you least expect it & usually when you're in the middle of something important - like paying bills on Internet Banking...go figure...
