Hi All,

I have read all the FAQ's on this thread and used that info to follow up with MicroD on the Elan U132. (Of which there are currently none available, but I was quoted with a cost of R1050!).

Apparently the P111, (PCI-PCMCIA) will do the job just fine, and at R295 seems reasonable, but will it definately work?

Does anybody here have a happy ending story about using a standard HSDPA card from Vodacom (Option Nozomi, whatever that means) in a desktop pc?

I have yet to receive my data card (Yes, I'm THAT much of a newbie), so I'm not even sure what the make\model will be. However I have requested that info from Vodacom. When I get that info, I'll post it.

Thanks all in advance.

I use HSDPA cards in 3 tpwer pc's, using the PCMCIA slot supplied by Vodacom (cost approx. R100). Works with both the Nozomi (option) and the Novatel HSDPA cards currently being supplied.

The P111 usb adaptor will NOT work, it takes 16bit cards, the HSDPA cards are 32bit. The U132 will only work with the Novatel HSDPA, or the old 3G cards (both option and Novatel), and are coming into the country end of May, I believe.

Hmmmmm.

Thanks for that info.

Which vodacom shop supplied you with the converters? Most shops I have phoned don't seem to have a clue what I am talking about. The ones that do say they don't supply it. :P

Alternatively, what is the make/model of the PCI cards?

I am based in Joburg by the way.
