Vodacom is your conduit to The Internet, Vodacom does not currently provide a news server of its own, you might have access to the upstream SAIX news server.

Internet Solutions' news server is unlikely to be available from outside of IS' network.

Other than that there are other news servers on the net that you should be able to access from Vodacom's network.

Tried both IS and SAIX but neither worked. Maybe if there is an adsl proxy that one can access but those are usually also limited to the network itself. Tera News might be an option. They are giving away what they call commercial quality Usenet access for a setup fee of $3.95. You get up to 50MB downloads per day including header data and unlimited uploads which should be more than adequate for cell usage.

Can't Vodacom provide newsgroup access? The rates we pay seem more than enough to make up for the cost of a few megs. Maybe the partnership with Vodafone can come in handy. I posted the same request to VM. Now let's see who gets there first. :)

With the size and cost of Vodacom's bundles, Teranews works perfect for me. 2gig bundle is the most cost effective and at 50mb/day (actually 62.5) I can dl up to 1.8gigs/month from Teranews. Only paid the initial setup fee which works out to bout R27.00 and there's no monthly charges.
