Well my testing has got pretty interesting........
I am using an old xnews (2009) reader for testing, as well as Grabit 1.7.2 Beta 6
With an 8ta IP in the 41.150.x.x range, it seems any newsgroup name with the word "binaries" in it, is not accessible at all. Yet other groups without "binaries" in the name, load the list of articles and allow reading.
(alt.binaries.test.files for example)
Xnews reports error "411 No such group"
Xnews also shows "200 wblv-ip-nnrp-2 NNTPCache server V3.0.2 [see www.nntpcache.com] (c) 1996-2002 Julian Assange <[email protected]> Mar 27 2008 ready (posting ok, 91264 groups available)."
Grabit reports "alt.binaries.test.files does not exist on this server"
With an 8ta IP in the 41.151.x.x range, this strange behaviour is not observed at all and this group is fully accessible
Is 8ta/Saix, somehow filtering groups with "binaries" in the name for IP's in the 41.150.x.x range and then denying access??
Any news server experts out there care to explain how this can be done?
Would be great if someone else can test and confirm this same issue and that it is not some anomaly in my setup somehow.
**Edit 00:12
I have confirmed this same strange behaviour on a desktop PC with MikroTik router and 8ta Modem, as well as a laptop with a different 8ta modem for its internet connection.
**Edit: 00:40
Tested alt.binaries.test.files with XS Usenet server "free.xsusenet.com".
Access to this particular group was not a problem using both the 41.150.x.x and 41.151.x.x 8ta IP ranges.
