Wazzup all?

I want to read some news groups, but as you might or might not know, Sentech does not have a news server.

Anyone out there using some other news server with their sentech?

Mweb recommended news.saix.net, but I keep getting an "authentication failure".

there is a paid for service over at www.easynews.com that a friend of mine was subscribed to. The last we spoke of this servie was over a year ago. It was usable from a dialup modem at a steady 3.1 kbps.

I have never tried it with mywireless though

*note to self : perhaps its time i tried*

I think I have been waiting for a local product offering or that eMule has been pretty much usable for as long as I have had MyWireless. I just wish it was faster.

Easynews are great - I've had an account for a number of years now. You can easily max out any connection available in SA with these guys. They also have a Route Selector, which will test your connection to them via several different routes, and allow you to statically route traffic through the fastest route. The newsgroup retention is something like 40 days, and to date, I have found their posts to be 100% complete.

I gave up. Started using google groups
Hey thanks for the tip. I hadn't previously heard of it. It seems to have all the advantages of Usenet, but without all the sleaze and junk - well at least it seems to be drastically reduced.

Is there a reason not to use news.is.co.za? Am I missing something?

It doesn't allow access from Sentech.

Hmm, I read it on here some very long time ago actually... back on the old forums...Now if they could open that to the full extent of the bandwidth our modems can support ;-) Wow, that woul dbe great! Probably also take some of the load off the much int traffic use some of us get up to hey.

That's what I also thought, so.....got home, added the server (No logon info), and the bloody thing is d/l newsgroups atm  :D

Hmmm...must give it a try then - it never used to allow access!

Those with an ananzi email account have access to newsgroups.

As I understand it:
128K MyWi users are on the 66.18.x.x subnet and will not be able to authenticate to Internet Solutions newsgroups.
The 256K and 512K MyWi users are on the "is subnet" of 196.37.x.x so should have no problem authenticating.

giganews and easynews are fantastic and the binary groups beat just about every torrent/p2p resource

Would explain my sudden ability to connect. Remember trying it a few months back, on MW128 at the time, without luck.

Mweb one just points to the saix one it seems. In fact they all just seem to point to the saix one!

Infosat one is not saix, but I know they are fussy about who can connect.
