What I can recommend is, if you can get access, is use Google Reader. Cool thing is that Google servers stores all the feeds and you get a nice interface on your mobile phone. I use it all the time on my phone.
K, i used the wrong descriptions, my fault. Im talking about a program like Grabit to download from a news server. @ work we use usernames and passwords to connect to the internet through a proxy server. GrabIt does not have a function to support authentication.
Go to the connection settings in your browser, and where you enter in the proxy address, make sure the option to use the same proxy server for all protocols is checked. Then all you need to do is connect to some arb site from within your browser, and it should ask for your username and password. After it authenticates, it should work for all other protocols including nntp.
If that doesn't work then maybe try googling something along the lines of "proxy +authentication +nntp +protocol". Good luck!
a firewall is used to allow ports through - if you don't have the nntp port open (or you can't get there via the proxy) a username/password isnt going to help you.
chances are the proxy won't allow nntp through - if its been setup correctly
