Newstand Issues

Anyone see anything odd with it?

Subscribed to Readers Digest (400MB!) And the iPad stops downloading as soon as the auto-lock comes in ... Doesn't continue in the background.

What's worse, the it doesn't restart where it left - so after 40-odd MB I started at 0.

So I link to my 3G and download on the way home ... (Picking it up constantly) and when I got home it was at 240MB.

Its cuts out and starts at 179MB ... Three times.

Still haven't got it :/

Anynoe used it successfully?

EDIT : So now I go the shops and leave it in my car with 3G ... get back and it's 340MB down. Drive home, disconnect 3G and connect to my wi-fi to get the remaining .... and it's 236MB.

I've honestly downloaded close to a GB on this magazine and still haven't got it. Cost my tons of cash on my OOB 8ta and 3g Vodacom.

It happend to me too when I downloaded the T3 magazine through newsstand. Was at the office on the WiFi and took 3 hours to download just 200mb of the 490mb file, then switched over to 3G to continue downloading and then it started from 0mb again, get home and pause the download and switch over to home WiFi and then resume and then it started from 100mb so just closed it and got back to the office the next day and then started downloading from 300mb again, really confusing and weird at the same time...
 
I checked my balances last night to get the 400MB magazine - 1GB on 3G data and 200MB on OOB 8ta :/

Hoping they fix the issue, as I really do like a digital copy and think it's a great feature.
 
I just found out it doesn't even resume ....

Click download, click pause, click resume - and it starts from 0MB once again.

I haven't even bothered using it tbh. I'm really hoping apple spends some time in the post jobs era fixing a few of the obvious weaknesses created by his insistence on certain things - iTunes being a glaring example.

They are so close to being perfect.

I think this is a bug ; it's supposed to resume a download - but doesn't.

It also cannot download in the background - so once you click 'download', you put your iPad away and don't touch it until that 300-400MB has downloaded.
 
I have held off using Newstand for a while now based on feedback I was reading, which seem to point the finger at both the App, and the individual titles. Conde Nast has come in for considerable criticism for their magazine app. For now I am using Zinio and have not had any issues yet. They have an extensive catalogue (including quite a few SA titles), and you get $25 when you register an account, to use on buying individual titles or a subscription.

5.1 includes some fixes for newsstand, so hopefully they'll get it working a bit better. Magazine subscriptions just need to work, which is why i'm avoiding it till they work out all the kinks. It'll be perfect in a few months.

The new version isn't out yet, its still in beta.

5.1 beta 2 is the newest unreleased version.

You are most likely on 5.0.1.

Sorry - that's what I meant.

Another tip - turn off your screensaver/lock ... that also causes it to pause and start from scratch.

5 hours later and I still don't have the magazines

Hi Dolby,
As I mentioned before the app is the problem, I'd suggest you start logging negative reviews for the app incl. on their support forums -- apps developed properly work without any intervention. Good luck...
