I have a 2016 KIA Cerato Koup which I purchased new , I noticed the other day when rotating tyres that the sidewalls on two tyres have cracked on the inside . The car has done just over 20000KM now but I expected to get around 40000KM from these tyres . There is a warranty pamphlet I received when I purchased the car .

I have contacted the dealership and Etraction who were listed as the local suppliers but so far they have been of no help. Has anyone had a similar issue or have you managed to claim for a replacement tyre before?

From experience when claiming for cracked sidewalls, you're going to be told you ran the tyre underinflated for whatever reason. If there's any evidence of a puncture whatsoever, kiss your warranty goodbye.

Well that sucks, if they refuse to replace I'll just change to another brand then but I'd prefer not having to pay for new tyres so soon .
No punctures at all by the way .

No punctures at all by the bay .

Unusual. When I went down to the harbour... I picked up 2 punctures. Then again... Not all that close to the bay.

:p

What year were they manufactured? Sounds like old tyres to me or maybe using cleaning agents to make the tyres all sparkly and nice?

2014 which I thought was weird , no cleaning agents were applied to the inside sidewalls .
It looks almost as if the tread will peel away .

Haven't heard of Nexen before, and from what I see I wouldn't touch it with a stick. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Nexen/ you will see quite a few issues with cracks and splits.

I came across this and a few other sites which complained abot the brand but i haven't seen anything locally.
Its a brand that KIA and maybe Hyundai supply with their new vehicles.

I have read somewhere that most of the VAG cars are going to have Nexen tyres on them.

I have Nexen Nfera SU4 on my Audi and have been very happy. Better than the set of Dunlops I bought the car with.

Is it normal for a 2016 vehicle to be fitted with tyres manufactured in 2014? Maybe it was a storage issue which resulted in the tyres cracking. Definitely not normal.

Why do people rotate tyres?

To distribute the wear evenly. Front and rear tires wear differently. The front tires carry more than 60% of your car’s weight. As a result the fronts wear down faster than the rears. Turning corners also wears the front tires at different rates. To get the best lifespan its advisable to rotate in accordance with the manufacturers suggestions.

Eventually got around to taking my car for an assessment. All 4 tyres replaced under the warranty. I just had to pay for balancing . R250 for 21000km , quite pleased with Nexans customer service .
