Nexiam generic

Is there a generic in SA?
Just spent about R600 for 30 pills.
bloody ridiculous.

Not yet, but I think the patent is running out soon, so there may be something on the horizon.

However, you need to get to another pharmacist as you have been overcharged significantly. The single exit price plus dispensing fee for Nexiam today is:

Nappi code Description Qty. Cost
897125009 Nexiam 40mg 30.0 479.37
897132017 Nexiam 20mg 30.0 321.25

yoh ripped off big time. Do you need a script for nexiam?

The only difference between Nexiam (es-omeprazole) and standard omeprazole (eg altosec (closer to R130) is that apparently the es-isomer has a quicker onset of action. Which is irrelevant under normal circumstances.
the medical aid will also usually pay for omeprazole when they won't for nexiam
Gotta love marketing!!!! :)

Polly is right about omepraze. It is 99% exactly the same drug but much cheaper and generics are available. It comes purely down to the unethical marketing that pharmaceutical companies use and the doctors that fall for these deceiving tactics.

nonsense. Nexiam is far superior end of story.

Omeprazole works for me and my stomach is like a warzone inside. Did you try just upping the dose. Still works out far cheaper.

"99 percent of people in the pharmaceutical business agree that Nexium and Prilosec are all-but identical products. (AZ begs to differ, naturally.) Chemically, Nexium is Prilosec except without one of Prilosec's less-active mirror image isomers. The drugs work in identical ways. "

"As the years went by, the industry slowly began to believe that Nexium wasn't an advanced version of Prilosec, but a trick that allowed AZ to gain a new patent on an old drug. Thomas Scully, the administrator of the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, famously gave a speech in which he said:

You should be embarrassed if you prescribe Nexium because it increases costs with no medical benefits... The fact is Nexium is Prilosec. It is the same drug. It is a mirror compound."

Thats like saying penicillin is just as powerful as amoxillicin or a cephalosporin, utter rubbish. Omeprazole gets the job done emperically yes because half the time the patients refuse to go for a Gscope so they treated blindly. When it matters omemprazole is utterly useless, try using it for gastric bleeding or actual tissue damage. Patients on nexiam or pantoprazole have a far better prognosis than omeprazole.

I wouldnt just up the dose whats your weight? usually you can do omeprazole up to 40mg daily for two weeks then maintain 20mg daily.

I don't know how you guys use this stuff. My doc put me on 80mg a day. Totally screwed me up.
Then I tried a generic (also 80mg) and that screwed me up in different ways.

So I researched life style changes to deal with the hernia and now take nothing except Gaviscon when required.

I have been off the meds for about 1.5 months now and it seems I am managing.

Funny how we all react do different hey :D

With Nexiam, acid production was reduced so much my stomach contents came right back up to my throat. The irritation was so bad I felt like I was about to have a great attack.

Not to mention the mind phucking. I did not know what was going on half the time. And to top it off, horrible bouts of depression - and I am not a depressive type of person at all. Life sucked as I had basically all the dude effects.

When I get into bed at night, sometimes I have excess acid creep up and that where Gaviscon sorts me out and I can go to sleep. Otherwise I have to sleep almost upright.

Have you 2 gone for a Gscope via a specialist or is your GPs initiating nexiam?

@ Mike Smit

The maxium dosage for Nexiam is 40mg .... in a single dose per day can be night if you having troubles after taking it

Personally I will agree if your GP is initiating do not use nexiam, if its not so serious to warrant a specialist then you dont need nexiam. HOwever nexiam is far more powerful, just because its looks almost the same doesnt mean it works the same, only a fool thinks so. For example the difference between morphine and heroin isnt much but the change in activity is almost 20 fold

EDIT**

Try using Propan S instead of gaviscon will be cheaper too
