Hi Dolby,

Please let me know if you'd like to sign up with MWEB and I'll get the ball rolling for you.
I could arrange for a consultant to contact you as soon as possible to discuss possible product offerings with you.
You could also try our trial account while you decide on which package is best suited for you.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

Hi

For a 1Mbps uncapped you can go to Webnow. I am paying R305 per month for 1 Mbps uncapped and R210 for my line rental.

PM me and I will send you their details.

I'll go for this, if MWEB can provide me with a speed better that .5Mb/s at night on a 4Mb line, which is what I experience with WA at the moment.

GimmeMore,
Just take note of the shaping/throttling that is being done on the WebAfrica uncapped accounts between 06:00 - 00:00.
See http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/38289-web-africa-unveils-home-uncapped-adsl-service.html and http://www.webafrica.co.za/home/adsl/uncapped/

You should get a good speed during the 06:00-00:00 period if you did not download more than 3GB in the last 6 hours AND not more than 44GB in the past 7 days.
If you've exceeded either of those rolling windows, your connection WILL be throttled down severely.

Lastly, the downloading protocol that you're using also makes a big difference. eg. torrents vs HTTP downloads.

Pada,

I am more that aware of the Fair Use Policies are you are more that welcome to go an check. With the speeds that I am getting I won't be able to get to 3Gb in an hour, even if I wanted to. That is on a 4Mb line.

The current speed test is:
Ping 251ms
Download Speed: 0.17Mbs (Wow!!!)
Upload: 0.27Mbs
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1742660738.png

As far as Fair Use is concerned:
6 hour usage: 0.16Gb
7 day usage: 8.16Gb

I very seldom make use of torrents, all my downloads are HTTP downloads.

GimmeMore,
It really looks to me like you're sitting on a congested exchange, rather than your ISP that is throttling your download + upload speeds.

I would suggest that you check out the thread where they discuss the congested Telkom exchanges.

Pada,

I will check out the threat, however, it was already investigated by Telkom, the line was tested, and they say there are no issues. I am also less that 10km from the exchange was also eliminates some issues.

I also had a perfect service until about 2 weeks ago, and then things started going south.

If the free 1GB Afrihost accounts are still available, why don't you sign up for one (will take a few minutes), and if you get decent speeds, then it's likely WebA. If your speeds are slow, then probably Telkom / the exchange etc.

You'd have 3 hours to use the 1GB, and then it'll reset back to 1Gig just after midnight, tonight.

Great.
Just remember, the 1Gig is usually supposed to last you one calendar month (i.e. from the 1st to 30th/31st, or 28th/29th Feb.)

(Have hi-jacked this thread nicely! - sorry, Dolby).

Had a look at Afrihost's site, and they're not currently giving them away.

Sorry - All the free accounts made available were snapped up again! However, the good news is that we should be doing this again soon. Please fill in your email address below and we'll email you an 'Early Bird' website link as soon as the next batch of free accounts becomes available.

Thanks for all the replies.

We're trying one final time to see if I'm in the system for the promo - but if not, I'll go elsewhere ... probably take MWEB Guy up on his offer.

Part of the Telkom promo was to reconnect my line, so I'll have to get this all sorted out first
