Thinking of getting one of these. I find my iPad just to big and heavy for some of the things I want to use it for. Especially lying in bed, the iPad can be a pain in the bottom.

I am also loving Android since I got my S3. So which one of these would you go for? 16GB Nexus 7 or the 16GB Samsung Tab2? Samsung has a few noticeable ups on the Nexus such as expandable SD, 3G (Nexus is only wifi), back camera.

So on paper the Samsung wins on features, but then again the Nexus does come with Jelly Bean whereas the Samsung is on Ice Cream.

So what would you choose and why?

Edit: I should add that I am not ofay with the Android line of tabs, so forgive my noobness. I am getting so confused with the 100's of different tabs available.

I would go Sammy. It will get JB so don't let that put you off.
I am running JB currently on all my Sammy devices already.

I think the wifi only is a dealbreaker for me because 3G is an essential feature for me. Asus has a really awesome range of Transformer tablets but none with 3G.

If you only use the tablet at home on a wifi network then go for the nexus (more powerful) but if like me, you need a tablet on the go, then the tab 7. Personally tho, I would wait a bit longer til a nexus 3G or the next samsung 7 inch quad core arrives. Use the ipad til then.

I'm getting the nexus 7, and the wifi isn't an issue with tethering available on my phone.

Doesn't sound like you're using it the right way?

Hahah! :p

Ok, was a bit of a concern for me.

Ideally I will only use it at home, I have the S3 for when I am out and about. Its more as a home / office device with a bigger screen than my S3. But if you say there are newer models coming then I am not in a hurry so I can wait.

You mean unanimous :D

Well the bluetooth keyboard is a big selling point on the Student Edition Tab, but the specs of the Nexus 7 are in a different class.

Damn you auto correct  :p

Not really worried about a BT keyboard, never used one on my iPad.

would rather go for the nexus, but I'd wait for it to release here. For a 200 Dollar tablet you're going to be paying way too much if you get one locally. I've got a galaxy s2, and I'm not a big fan of touch wiz, also like the idea of getting updates shortly after release, not 6 months later (if I'm lucky)

Cool. Any idea when it will be released here? You can pick the 8GB up for around R2900 which is way more than $200. Being SA and all do you think we will see decent prices on the Nexus?
