Nexus products not readily available

Hi

I was wondering why the Google Nexus phones are not readily available in South Africa.

Even the Huawei shop at Vodaworld is unwilling to source the phone.

I know it is available from Orange and some other places, but I would prefer a physical shop where I can go back to should there be a problem with the handset.

Is there any options other than Orange where I can buy the Nexus 6P?

It's not available because Google & it's partners decided it wont be.

Would you like to comment on the logical and/or business reason for this decision?
They lack a partner here willing to bring them in. The networks don't want to they dont conform to the model used by samsung etc.

LG, Hauwei & Moto are already stuggling for brand recognition and market share here against the massive Samsung. Bringing in a phone made by them but not branded by them isnt high on their priority list. Also they'll need Google's partnership to bring them here with little marketing incentive. Man on the street will recognise an LG phone as made by LG but not a Nexus same with Hauwei or Moto. Moto is the worst they have no presence here at all.

Their partner to bring them to the US is Google. Little risk for them as Google will have to do all PR & advertising. Whats Google's hardware recognition here? None, not even a chromecast

If you ran Hauwei would you make the effort to bring a Google branded product here without assistance from Google? A market where you are struggling and your brand is still seen as Fong Kong and people can't even pronounce it?

Now Samsung on the other hand they have the brand recognition and market share to try these sort of things. Thats why once upon a time they brought the Galaxy Nexus here. I think they believed the Galaxy brand was successful and recognisable enough to stand on it's own. They were wrong at the time, might be different these days.

/typed out on the john.

Thanks Vegeta, makes some sense.

I just wished that when I walked into the Huawei store and asked for the phone by name they would have been a little more helpful.

Yeah its disappointing. Support for the Nexus devices through Orange has been atrocious in my experience so far. Nexus 5 has been back twice for repairs and have been waiting 6 weeks now for a replacement device to arrive. Wish it was directly available through the Google Store...
