Nexus S Super AMOLED compared to Super Clear LCD

can't wait until SAMOLED+ comes to notebooks and monitors

At the risk of sounding like an advertisement for washing powder, the most noticeable differences between the two displays is that the blacks are “blacker” on the Super AMOLED display while the colours are more vibrant and whites “whiter” on the Super LCD.

Love it! :D

Better to get a Galaxy S. Better specs, lower price.

Even better to wait for a Galaxy S2 or import one though :)

I think the fact that the Nexus S is a pure Google device will win many over since you will always have the latest android version available to you. I love my Motorola Defy but it has been stated by Motorola that it won't get further updates past 2.2.

"Pure Google" is overrated.
It means ugly standard applications with few features, poor video format support, but hey you may have a higher Android version number.
High end phones get regular updates, manufacturers add features that stock Android doesn't have and they now have better specs than any Nexus device. So what if they don't have the absolute latest version of Android right away.
And there's always custom ROMs.

I got the I9020T from the states, so it's got the AMOLED display. Contrary to this comparison, the screen perform very well in direct sunlight. The brightness just needs to be set way up, but I leave mine on auto which works well.

@Maddmatt Pure Google means more features, less bloatware and better performance. Mobo or rock player are both free and take care of any video format. I love the look of it as well, but there are tons of launchers you could install and customize if you don't.

Yea but those video players don't use GPU acceleration which means more battery consumption....

More features? Err, not that I know of... they actually have less...

I'd go for a Nexus phone if they actually brought out one with better hardware and features. The Nexus S is like a downgraded Galaxy S with a higher price.
I do wish the Galaxy S looked like that though, but that's it.

HTC and Samsung don't have any real bloatware, and there's always custom ROMs.

As a touch device developer having the availability of current versions of Android is always a plus, not that they are usually needed. Naturally backward compatibility is always first prize, but every now and again there is a new expected OS version with development platforms. For example, right now most new developer platforms only support 2.2 and up.

For that reason a Nexus phone is pretty much a giving in my future, but I'm sure not giving Vodacom R6k for one when I can get it from the UK for R3.5. Thank goodness for family members who like to travel ;)

<edit>
Also, personally I prefer to get a Super LCD version over AMOLED. The AMOLED is beautiful, and if not for its low life I would prefer it. Yes, I understand that phones are consumer goods usually only expected to last for 2 years, and by the time your amoled screen becomes too ugly to use you are buying a new one. At least the Super LCD will remain absolutely perfect until the day I replace it. Samsung have reported they are working on making the AMOLED screens better, with much longer lifespans and lower power consumption, so I hope they succeed. For now LED or LCD for me :)

I use my HTC Desire for just that, as my dev platform testing its always running the latest Android, now on CM7.1 RC1 = Android 2.3.4 No need to get a Nexus all the time. :)

CM is nice. I run 6.1.1 since CM on my Galaxy Spica is a community contributed one and 7.1 is still in early alpha. Not the best place to be, but then its better than being limited to 2.1 because Samsung needs devices to go end of life.
