You know what you did back there is very impressive but i don't see many people applies your methods because they are lazy. And that's why Firefox will persists quite long.

I tried in vain to load Chrome on my laptop. Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit but I keep getting an error when running the Chrome setup. FF and Opera both install fine.

When you get that error again... click on the "get help with this error" link... and it will tell you how to fix the registry to allow the install.
