Nice place to eat in CBD

Hey guys

Looking for a nice quiet relaxed restaurant, somewhere i can take my significant other to chat and eat well.
Something inexpensive if possible and preferably something out the way of the busyness of town. Something nice, something you can only hear about via word of mouth. Ill be happy to trade a little breakfast spot in return :)

You could try "The Showroom" which is in the same building as Bloomsbury Investment Cars.....it is not the cheapest place but it's worth it. The food is really good and the service is just as good. Booking is essential though, and ask to sit on the upper level.........(I got engaged there)
 
Are you referring to the CBD of Jhb ?

Edit: My mistake, I just saw that you are located in CPT.

Thx will keep it in mind - def not ready to get engaged so maybe it should wait for a more appropriate time :p
 
Go to New York Bagles and then take a stroll down to the beach and eat there. Their bagles are to die for and you'll get that whole relaxed "shoa, can like to be in like... the cape bru" feeling
 
For breakfast or lunch you can always go to Manna Epicure in Kloof Street....second only to Terroir @ Kleine Zalze in Stellenbosch.

hehe shot bru, done this many many times :)
NYB now has moved inside the main building and off the direct street, primi Piati has moved in.
Been frequenting NYB for about 15 years now :)

Yea, I almost cried when I drove there and couldn't find the place. Looked like their sign got taken off. On the way back from that huge circle I saw them and pulled into that side street up towards the mountain.

They didn't "Move" per-se, just the restaurant they were involved with closed. Their sign burnt down so thats why it looked like they moved. Only a small entrance.

I usually go grab a smoothy at the place accross the street too.

Also, if you're looking for something else, perhaps go to the V&A Waterfront. To the Royal Sushi bar. Its small and intimate and they have very nice sushi.
 
On this topic. Do you guys know if its worth eating on top of table mountain or someplace else before (or after) going there?
 
Acid, I wouldn't eat up top table mountain.. Last time we were up there they did not have anything good up there..

Surv, if you want to venture into Durbanville there is a restaurant called Avo~ It is divine.. Slightly more expensive than Spur, Cattle Baron.. Divine Lamb Shank, good fish, 100% beef burger.. They only have about 12 things on the menu, with 2 or 3 specials for the night.. The owner is also the chef..

Approx where is it? I might want to go on my trip down to SA in november
 
Oh, the best sweet and sour chicken @ a chinese place just accross from the hypermarket in brackenfell if any of you live out that side.

I usually drive through from Paarl the first chance I get just for that.

made a booking for Yindees which is a Thai restaurant just off Kloof.
Very lekka if anybody hasnt been before.

Showroom one of my favourites as well, but quite pricey. Rather keep for celebrations.

Agree that Manna is a great breakfast spot.

For dinner, try cosy Limoncello's near the Garden Centre or Greens in Park Street (really affordable - I'm there every week) or Restaurant Paradiso higher up in Kloof Street. Paradiso had terrible food at some point, but the new owners (French couple) have really improved on the menu. The view is great too.
