Hallo all

While im waiting for my boss to email me the list of canon demo models I have done some research and found some prices I believe to be the best :)

Now I just want a bit of feedback from you guys who know a bit more than me about all of this :p

I have decided to get the D40x or D40.

Price for D40 with 2gigsandisk memory and the 18-55 lense: R4899 D40 special

Price for D40x kit: R5500 (demo model, 3 months wrnt.)

The D60 + 18-55 lense : R5999 D60 special

Now do you guys think it is worth it to get the D40x over the D40?

Here is a link to a page that compares the D40;D40x;D60: Features fro the D40, D40x and D60

Please help me choose :p:D

Thanks for your time.

The only difference is the mega pixel. If you think that 4 extra mega pixel is worth R600 then get the D40X.

The extra 4MP might come handy :), but there's probably not much difference. I'd be tempted for 10 anyway. *prepares for flame*

From experience, the sensor cleaning alone on the D60 would be worth the money to me. Also, the d60's kit lens is VR.

And the ISO can go down to 100 on the D40x instead of 200 on the D40.

Also I am asking you guys if it is worth it.

Ps any idea what is in the Nikon kit? I have no idea.

I will buy the D40x from here: Nikon Shop SA

Do you guys think the extra noise from the 10mp D40x is a problem?

Also do you guys really think the extra 4mp will make a difference, and the 100 ISO minimum level vs the 200 ISO minimum level on the D40?

And what is cropping?

I'd buy the D60...

Lol, i don't have R6000 :)

I am a student :p

Lol, i can get the D40 + kit for R4500 :)

Thus R1500 less than the D60.

So you guys think the D40x is worth the extra R1000? Also how much are the SD cards for these cameras?

Strangely enough, almost all the D60 cameras sold here in SA have the non-VR lens :(

The D40 has less noise at the same ISO as the D40x, so it is better in low light conditions. We discussed this in the "Game Specials thread"...

I also went through the D40 vs D60 debate... Many opinions on dpreview.com say that the D40 has nicer photos out the camera.

SD Cards are like 200 bucks...

Sorry the Game specials thread was a bit long to re-read. :p :D

Thus your opinion is grab the D40 + kit for R4500?

The memory is cheap. Don't make a decision based on that. I'd buy the D40x if given the choice between them... or I'd save my money and buy a second-hand DSLR until I could afford the better models.

If you look around you may find a D40 or D70 second hand for a good price.

I came to the same conclusion a few months ago when I was deciding on which cam to go for. The reviews of the D60 didn't impress me. The D40 left me with a bigger impression.

Lol, i won't just wanted to know what they weregoing for more or less.

Also I am going to mozambique for december holliday, thus I have max R5500 for the camera, thus I can not wait longer because i want to take the camera with to mozb.

Lol, aye and I first want to make sure I am very into this whole thing before I just blow money left and right.

didn't you read what I said? :p

I'd buy the Canon 350d before the Nikon d40, even though it's older technology...

lol :p I did but read above why I can't wait longer and why I can not spend more than R5500 :)

Also it sounds like the Canon eos350D I can get for around R4200.

Think im sold on the Nikon though :p:D

Why would you buy the 350D over the D40?

The D40 is much nicer in my opinion.
Why?

One other bit advice I gave you in the other thread was to visit Outdoorphoto. Did you do that?

Oh yes, but you're a student, part of being a student is to let someone else do the research :p
:D :D
