Ninetendo unveiled the Wii MotionPlus, an accessory for the Wii Remote Controller, which promises to add more realism and depth to games.

According to Ninetendo the Wii MotionPlus will redefine game control by “by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space.”

How it works

The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion.

Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play.

What else Ninetendo has in store

The firm also unveiled WiiSports Resort, at the E3 games conference in Los Angeles, the first title to take advantage of the new add-on

But Nintendo fans hoping to learn details on established franchises like Mario and Zelda were left disappointed. Mr Iwata, Ninetendo President, said only that the teams behind the games were “hard at work” and new titles were under development reported the BBC.

A game in development for the DS console, Grand Theft Auto, and a new Wii title, called Music, which sees gamers play more than 50 musical instruments by using the Wiimote motion-sensitive controller, were also mentioned.
