NINTENDO DS/LITE ON A PLANE??

Hi dudes & dudettes

I have a stupid question. Can you play these on a plane? Will they even let me through the search thingy? I'm going overseas in May and in case the plane has k@k entertainment (I'm flying Swissair - anyone know what kind of tv/media they have-is it a behind the seat in front of you type effort where you can choose what you want to watch like on British Airways, or a big-ass general screen?), I'd like to get one of these to keep my mind off the hours 'n hours of flying ahead. I will read on the plane, but there's only so much reading I can do, 'cos I need to concentrate on what I'm reading but the minute the plane starts with it's turbulence I lose my concentration 'cos I'm so ***** scared of flying.:cry:

Where is the best/cheapest place to buy one of these (do you still get the normal DS or has the lite taken it's place?). I've looked at loot & take 2, but they don't seem to sell the console. I've found a ds lite on kalahari for R1800, but without any games. Does anyone know of any specials (in the East Rand, Gauteng) where you get the console and a game (or 2 - to be greedy)? No secondhands please.

The same info is required for a PSP please.

I've taken my DS Lite on International flights 3 times since I bought it. No problem. Of course, they never actually give it a second look (or a 1st), so even if it wasn't allowed, nobody would say anything. (I even phoned the airline to ask once, they said "yes", but it really sounded like they had no idea what I was talking about)
Same goes for a PSP.
Remember, you're allowed to use a laptop anytime except take-off and landing (in fact, last plane I was on had power points!) There's no way your DS or PSP is gonna cause problems if the laptops don't (what with their 3G, bluetooth, WiFi and spinning HDD and Optical drives)
 
I had a Palm Treo once with 'flight mode' ... it disabled GSM, wifi, BT and whatever else interferes. They STILL asked me not to use it :/
 
Yes, SA doesn't like cell phones. Actually, onetime actually encouraged us to use a PSP on flight, they even have them available for rent, and PSP's have wifi too.
 
afaik you cannot operate any radio device on a US bound flight now, whether its in flight mode or not. So would that include Laptops?

I have no idea about US bound flights, but local ones allow laptops.

There's a bigger chance that you are going to be in a traffic accident while you are on your way to the airport than when you are in the flight.
 
oh ok. i thought they didnt allow it now after that idiot and his chemistry experiment....

I hope the Kindle is allowed, I plan to read a lot when i fly in a few months. In fact I bore so easily on a plane cause i cant sleep. So i switch between laptop, ipod, book, ipod, book,laptop,talking,eating, laptop,making friends with ppl in isles - talking, laptop,eating, book... :)
 
I don't even take a book with me anymore. Between my ipod, my DS and the big selection of movies they have nowadays, there's no need for a book. I will be using an ebook reader as soon as I get my hands on one, tho.
 
I hate overnight plane trips. Even with my PSP I wind up wanting to jump out one of those little windows.
 
Watched movies on my iPod on flights between Joburg and CT. Guess on iPhone I would just haveta set it to flight mode or whatever.
