Guys, what do you think of the Wii as an exercise tool? Can you actually lose weight?

You can, if you do it regularly and do enough of the right things.

Can you lose weight just playing ordinary games? I doubt it. But if you play tennis, and the more physical games, and of course the Wii fit exercises, sure.

No. sorry gal but the best way is to join a gym and eat healthy....

instead of playing a running game where you wave your arms around a bit, why not save 3k and jog around the block every day, and then 2 blocks, 3 blocks, etc as you get fitter.

spend the 3k if you WANT the wii, but leave it if you want the wii FOR EXERCISE purposes.

Get it! If you get bored of WiiFit then you can always use the board for snowboarding/skating games

Eating is a huge thing. I know everyone on here has said 80% diet and 20% exercise, but I didn't quite realise.

I dropped from about 86KG to 79KG from simply cutting out beer, Coke, Steers and other some other junk food. I hardly exercised at all during this time

We have done this before.
No it is not a fitness tool.
It's a game console.

Just to add to this discussion - I'm in a wheelchair, so cannot actually go running. Thanks for that suggestion, though. Yes, we do have the Wii already, and my favourite game is Grand Slam Tennis.

I've only actually seriously gotten into it over the last few weeks. After the first week, I lost 2.5kg ... second week, did not get so much activity, so stayed the same. Third week, I was more active, but slipped on the food side, since we had a little "thank you" breakfast at work.

This week, I have been extremely serious, with at least one game per night. I am actually determined to win one of the tournaments, so doubt I'm going to stop any time soon ... :o

And yes, usually, I am very careful with what I eat. I don't stick to a specific diet, but do tend to eat a little less and stay away from junk food and what not. I also drink a lot of water.

My next question is whether I should combine it with some other kind of exercise at home. If so, what? We do have a pool at the complex where we live and I plan to get more exercise by swimming as the weather warms up. I'm not keen on the gym, because being in a wheelchair means special facilities and it takes enough time as it is to change and freshen up. I'd rather do this at home.

Basically want to know whether I can believe what I'm reading regarding the calorie count on Grandslam Tennis, and what other exercise I could try.

Thanks again for the answers :)

Well wii boxing with work your tummy muscles pretty darn hard, the first time i played wii i have sore tummy muscles for like 3 days. You also do not really need to use your legs for is as long as you can bob and weave and swing your arms it will be fine. WII though does give you a great work out though, your entire body.

The second day after my long boxing session i was in pain when i used my tummy muscles heavily, pity they made it so easy because damn that is a work out of note.

WII boxing FTW.
