Nintendo's Switch can't keep up with PlayStation 4

The five-year-old PlayStation 4 is delivering more energy — and profit growth — for Sony’s business, when compared with Nintendo’s much-newer Switch.

Quarterly figures from the two video-gaming rivals showed that Sony is benefiting from its best-ever console cycle, while Nintendo is struggling to expand sales of its play-at-home-or-on-the-go machine. Sony boosted its operating profit forecast yet again, results on Tuesday showed, while Nintendo missed estimates and kept its outlook intact. Sony shares jumped the most in a year on Wednesday, while Nintendo fell.

Nintendo and Sony should partner, and play to each others strengths.
 
I dont think it is fair to compare a switch to a PS4.

I got the switch for my kid and I have been extremely impressed and happy with it. Mario Oddysey, kart, tennis, party, etc.. Game can only be played on switch. Minecraft on switch and me on the PC playing with my kid is great. Also the mobile aspect allows us to play together while mom is shopping :)

Overall I am very pleased with the switch. It is no PS4 by a long mile in terms of hardware and titles available but I dont think it should try to compete. It has its niche and I am quite happy with it.

Interested to hear the thoughts of others ?
 
Nintendo forgets one thing, the reason the Wii outsold the other consoles wasn't because of motion only but because it was cheap.
 
Ill still get both though - the Switch so that I can have all the Ninty exclusives and the PS4 for LOU, GTA VI, Red Dead 2, etc

If it was truly their catalogue the Wi-U would've sold better, but it didn't cause it was expensive and the silly tablet controller thing. The switch is currently at the same price as the Xbox one S which power wise is far superior, the only thing the Switch has is you can dock and undock it?

the switch is heavily overpriced. I picked it up overseas for 1/3 the cost
 
I have a Switch, xbone and PS4. As said by some of the guys here the switch is a niche. It's great to have the portability of the switch. I travel quite a lot and to take a PS4/xbone with me to the hotel is just not an option but the switch is great to kill time in the evenings. The switch can and will not ever compare to the PS/XB its lower spec hardware and it has less titles than the latter but the latter is not portable like the switch.

I can however agree that the switch is overpriced as a product in SA and the titles I believe are also overprices most of the time.
 
Switch has had a fairly dry year for 2018, games-wise. 2017 was absolutely killing it but they haven't had any games in the same league as BOTW, Mario Odyssey, or MK8 Deluxe. Meanwhile PS4 has been having a ton of AAA games coming out. Switch at the moment is the best way to play indie games, but otherwise the first party games coming out have all been a bit underwhelming.

I think the holidays will be much better though with Smash Bros and Pokemon coming out. Also Diablo 3 just launched and it looks really cool.

and basically Pokemon is going to explode. I can see many picking it up just for that.

Yeah, and Smash Bros Ultimate looks incredible. I think Switch could own the Christmas sales, but right now I have to admit it's slow. Not as bad as during the Wii U days or anything though, the indie game library is just phenomenal. I haven't even started Dead Cells yet.

All being first party titles. From what I can see most of the big 3rd party support of the Switch comes from ports of the last gen.

Not all, but there are a lot of ports. Wolfenstein 2 and Starlink are some recent exceptions. But it's not easy to port current gen titles to Switch without graphical compromises so you'll never see something like RDR2 on there. Still there's something awesome about playing even a cut down version of a full console title in a portable console.

There's heavy rumours of an updated hardware revision coming out in 2019, something around the power level of PS4.
 
I've put in more hours on my Switch than my PS4.
I prefer the portability aspect.I play undocked probably 80% of the time
