Nissan has shown a teaser of it's new compact SUV, will be hitting SA in '26. There is a lot riding on this one:

Nissan Teases Renault Duster-Based Tekton

Scheduled to be unveiled in 2026, Nissan has released teaser images of the Tekton compact SUV.

Ahead of its official debut in 2026, Nissan has announced the name of its upcoming new compact SUV, while giving us a glimpse into how the India-built model will look like. Named ‘Tekton’, the forthcoming crossover/SUV’s exterior styling draws inspiration from the new-generation Patrol, which we expect to arrive in South Africa in 2026.

Said Alfonso Albaisa, Corporate Executive at Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, “The all-new Nissan Tekton draws its design inspiration from our legendary Nissan Patrol. It is designed to disrupt, dominate, and deliver everything today’s modern consumer desires. Imposing, stylish, and built to set a new benchmark in India and beyond, the design and build quality are distinctly Nissan – embodying the best of Nissan’s SUV DNA.”

The Tekton features C-shaped headlamps and a “robust” lower front bumper, while the front doors incorporate a ‘Double-C’ shaped accent with a subtle mountain range motif inspired by the Himalayas. Round back, a full-width lightbar spans the tailgate, with the front ‘Tekton’ lettering mirrors at the rear.

Based on the same architecture underpinning the third-generation Duster – Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B platform – the Tekton is expected to share its dimensions with its Renault cousin. So, around 4 343 mm in length and 1 921 mm in width. Although Nissan has yet to reveal the interior, it has confirmed that the compact SUV will offer a suite of advanced technology features.

Magnite getting a bigger brother: Indian-built Nissan Tekton confirmed for South Africa

With its affordable price tag, Nissan’s Indian-built Magnite has become one of South Africa’s most popular compact SUVs, and soon the carmaker will aim to emulate that success in the segment above that.

At the recent Red Sea drive event held in Egypt, Nissan Africa President Jordi Vila confirmed that the all-new Nissan Tekton would be launched in South Africa in 2026.

Set to be built in India, the new model will slot above the Magnite, serving as a (likely) more affordable replacement for the Qashqai, and going up against vehicles such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The new vehicle has yet to be fully revealed, but the teaser images you see here do give us a strong indication of how it will look on the outside.

Created in partnership with Renault, it uses the same CMH-B underpinnings as the Renault Duster, but the Nissan’s exterior styling is unique, with pronounced rear fenders lending a sporty appearance. The front end, with its C-shaped headlights, was inspired by the Patrol.

Another interesting feature is the ‘Double-C’ shaped accent on the front doors, which incorporates a subtle mountain rain motif inspired by the Himalayas.

Technical specifications have yet to be revealed, but the new model is expected to be powered by the Renault-Nissan 1.3-litre turbopetrol engine. The vehicle will likely have a length of around 4.3 metres.

Renault Duster-based Nissan Tekton confirmed for SA

Nissan South Africa has announced the Renault Duster-based Tekton is heading to SA. Here’s what you can expect from the Japanese automaker’s new India-built model.

With the news that Chery will buy Nissan’s Rosslyn plant in 2026, Nissan has reassured its customers that the brand remains committed to offering services in SA, will continue to offer vehicles in our market, and introduce several new models to our shores in the coming 12 months. And the latter includes the Tekton compact SUV, which the automaker teased in October 2025.

The Tekton is based on the same Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-B platform underpinning the Renault Duster, which we sampled in 4WD form in 2025. As such, we expect the Nissan’s exterior dimensions to be similar to the Duster’s — 4 343 mm in length and 1 921 mm in width, with a wheelbase spanning 2 657 mm.

Nissan Tekton SA launch date

Nissan’s local arm has yet to announce when the Tekton, which will be officially revealed in early February 2026, will launch in SA. However, we expect that the Duster-based model will likely arrive here towards the end of the year, following its expected mid-2026 market launch in India.

Nissan has released a new teaser of its upcoming midsize SUV, the Tekton. It will be unveiled on July 9.

The Nissan Tekton shares its underpinnings with the Renault Duster. In the latest image, the SUV can be seen alongside the Nissan Patrol. It showcases how much of the Tekton’s design is inspired by the flagship SUV.

The Tekton has an upright front fascia, featuring a wide grille, a contoured bonnet, and LED headlights with a full-width LED light bar and C-shaped LED DRLs.

Under the bonnet, the Tekton could get the same set of engines as the Duster. These include 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre turbo-petrol units paired with manual and automatic transmissions.
