2026 Nissan Tekton price & specs in South Africa

The Nissan Tekton has officially launched in South Africa, with the Japanese automaker’s local arm revealing pricing and specs for its Renault Duster-based compact SUV. See pricing below…

Similar to its Renault Duster step-sibling, the Nissan Tekton is available with the choice of two turbocharged petrol engine options: 1.0-litre three-cylinder (T160) and 1.3-litre four-cylinder (T280). Exclusively coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox, the T160 unit produces 74 kW and 160 N.m of torque. The T280 powertrain produces 115 kW and 260 N.m, the latter delivered to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Nissan claims average fuel consumption figures of 5.9 and 6.3 L/100 km for the T160 and T280, respectively. The T160- and T280-equipped models complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 12.46 and 9.89 seconds, respectively, the Japanese automaker says. The respective claimed top speeds of the former and latter are 170 and 198 km/h.

Nissan Tekton (2026) Price & Specs

The new Nissan Tekton has arrived in South Africa, based on the Renault Duster and slotting between the Magnite and X-Trail. Here’s what the newcomer costs…

- Duster-based Tekton arrives in SA
- 5 derivatives available from launch
- Base variant employs 1.0T and 6MT
- All other derivatives use 1.3T 6DCT

The new Nissan Tekton has touched down in South Africa, positioned between the Japanese brand’s Magnite and X-Trail. If the newcomer’s general proportions look decidedly familiar, that’s because it’s based squarely on the Renault Duster.

Riding on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-B platform, the new Tekton (revealed as recently as July 2026) is built alongside the Duster in India. As a reminder, Renault SA recently switched from the Romanian-built Duster to the far more affordable Chennai-made version.

Like the Duster, the new Tekton – which effectively arrives as a long-awaited though far more competitively priced replacement for the locally discontinued Qashqai – employs a 2 657 mm wheelbase. Measuring 4 349 mm from front to back, Nissan’s crossover is 3 mm longer than the Renault-badged version. Ground clearance is listed as 212 mm, while luggage space is a claimed 518 litres (up to the parcel shelf).

At launch in South Africa, the local Tekton line-up comprises 5 derivatives, with pricing running from R339 999 to R529 999 (for the record, the 6-strong Duster portfolio ranges from R339 999 to R499 999). It’s worth noting that the J12-series Qashqai that was axed in mid-2024 had been pricing bookends as lofty as R568 200 and R670 600.

New Nissan Tekton compact SUV lands in South Africa – here’s how much it costs

Now operating as a full importer following the sale of its Rosslyn plant to Chery Auto South Africa, Nissan South Africa will lean more heavily on vehicles sourced from India, and the new Tekton will be a key player in the brand’s new era.

Slotting neatly above its Indian-built counterpart, the popular Magnite, the new Nissan Tekton also draws from the Renault Alliance parts bin, in this case borrowing heavily from the recently introduced Duster model.

Nonetheless, the Tekton has plenty of unique design elements, particularly at the front end, where it takes inspiration from the latest Patrol, which Nissan confirmed is also set for local introduction in the near future.

South African customers get to choose from five model derivatives, starting just shy of the R340,000 mark.

Two turbo engines

As with its Renault sibling, the Nissan Tekton is offered with a choice of two turbopetrol powertrains. The entry-level model gets a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit that produces 74kW and 160Nm, paired exclusively with a manual transmission. The rest of the line-up boasts a 1.3-litre four-cylinder unit, offering 120kW and 260Nm, and paired with a dual-clutch gearbox.

Although no four-wheel-drive options exist, the Tekton does offer better-than-average ground clearance of 212mm.

Final thoughts

What would make a consumer buy the Nissan over the Renault? This is where personal preference comes into play. Thankfully, due to the design changes of the Nissan, the vehicles don’t look exactly the same. What it would really boil down to is resale value. Renault sells more cars than Nissan locally by roughly 1 000 units a month. This means there will likely be more demand for the cars like the Duster compared to the Tekton. For this reason, we would advise a consumer to always opt for the more popular car for better resale value. That being said, the Tekton is a great crossover to consider.
