Hi, I'm considering buying an electric shaver and I came across the Philips Nivea for Men shaver.
http://www.philips.co.za/c/mens-shaving/precision-tube-trimmer-hs8440_23/prd/

I would like feedback if it's a good machine to buy? and how close do these shavers shave compared to manual shaving?

Also I see places stocking the shaving gel for this machine but they don't stock the shaver  where can i buy the machine in Durban as the Philips website doesn't have a list of stockists?

Thanks

I used a Philips electric shaver once years ago, had 3 "lift & cut" heads, rechargeable, battery indicator, worked brilliantly for many years, gave a smooth shave just like a razor would do, then the battery died. so I went and bought their latest 3 head Philips electric, was not impressed :( went back to wet shaving! :)

Rather take the dry one. The nivea stuff is expensive and sometimes you want to shave in the car or somewhere you can not rise afterwards.

You can use those dry. You don't need to rinse afterwards.

I have one; it's great. Cuts as closely as a non-electric razor. I don't use the gel that comes with it, I buy normal shaving gel/cream, and that works like a charm. Much cheaper.

I'll try those places, thanks :)

Reason why i'm leaning towards the Nivea because i'm guessing it's easier on the skin as my skin is sensitive.

I have one, dont like it prefer to use panasonic Foil Razor. Cost me about R1800 but work every cent, not one ingrown hair as yet. BTW it has a charger that cleans and drys it for you.

can you fill the razor with normal shaving gel? reason i'm asking if Nivea stops making the gel in the future i don't wanna get stuck with it.

I don't fill the shaver, I just put the shaving gel on my face.

Eish, if you have to go electric use a foil shaver like those from Braun & Panasonic.

Whats the difference?

Rotary head razors have two or three flat circular heads that rotate in circles. Foil head razors have a semi-cylindrical foil with a cutting block that vibrates against the foil.

I have used both types and prefer the foil head razors. But I think it depends on skin type and beard growth.

yes foil shavers do not work on heavy beards like mine - they work fine on bum fluff :) :D

^ hahaha :D

mine is quite a heavy beard... thats why i'm being cautious and asking for advice. :)

then u should stick to a 3 blade wet razor like gillette mach3 or something. I have not found a suitable electric razor to come "close" to a 3 blade wet shave. women just lurve a smooth soft face between their ........ :D

Don't wanna hijack the thread, but whats the general consensus on which wears out quicker foil or rotary? (I've got a Braun foil & its getting expensive to buy new blades & foil)

The one that is the subject of this thread does.
